The Salesian Psychological Association (SPA) South Asia celebrated its Silver Jubilee during its Annual General Body Meeting (AGM) on 17 and 18 January at Don Bosco Provincial House, Bangalore. The Salesian Psychological Association (SPA) South Asia, founded in 1999, is a non-profit group functioning under the auspices of the Salesian Provincial Conference of South Asia (SPCSA). It consists of members of the Salesian family trained in the psychological sciences, committed to deepening their professional knowledge and skills and offering psychological services and training, especially for those in the helping professions.

As part of the Silver Jubilee celebrations, a three-day International Workshop on “Schema Therapy” was organized by the Salesian Psychological Association (SPA) South Asia on 14, 15, and 16 January at Don Bosco Provincial House, Bangalore. Dr. Father Jose Thomas Koyickal SDB, the Provincial of Bangalore Province, inaugurated the Workshop in the presence of the Resource person, Jan Kossack, Father Shalbin Kalanchery SDB, the Vice Provincial, and Father Joy Nedumparambil SDB, the Provincial Economer.

The Salesian Psychological Association (SPA) India is offering a unique opportunity for priests, religious sisters, and brothers to deepen their understanding of sexuality and integrate it into their celibate lifestyles. This five-day residential workshop, scheduled to begin on 15 November 2024, will take place at Ashir Bhavan, Ernakulam, Cochin, Kerala. The event will address contemporary issues related to sexual boundaries, intimacy, celibacy, and psychological maturity.

Chawan Matey, a Bosco Bible School past pupil, won the Integrated Youth Development Centre (IYDC) Don Bosco Mobile Photography Contest, held in April 2021, on the theme, ``The World Through My Window``. Matey won a cash prize of 5000, organized by the IYDC Kochi.

New Delhi. February 8. Two volumes of the much awaited six-volume series Formation Towards Psychosexual and Celibate Integration: Manual for Formees, -- the Pre-Novitiate, authored by Johny Nedungatt SDB, and the Novitiate, authored by Fr. Joy Kai SDB and Sr. Josmy Jose FMA, -- were released today by Rev. Biju Michael SDB, South Asia Regional of the Salesians of Don Bosco, at the Don Bosco Provincial House New Delhi.

Mumbai Salesians` Father [Dr.] Ajoy Fernandes who has a doctorate in Counselling Psychology with a major in Clinical Counselling and is Director Prafulta-Don Bosco Youth Counselling Services, Matunga-Mumbai, presents an online episodic video-series `Understanding and Helping Children with Learning Difficulties`. The video-series starting today 05 September, and to be aired on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of every month, on the MumbaiSalesians` Youtube Channel, are broken up into short 10-minute interactive inputs describing the symptoms of learning and related difficulties; the formal and informal ways of assessing these difficulties; the types of beneficial interventions possible and the government-endorsed concessions across India. This is a Teachers` Day gift from the famed clinical psychologist, as an appreciation to teachers all over, who mould, nourish, nurture, inspire, motivate, enlighten and mentor students on a daily basis.

Marking the solemnity of St Thomas the Apostle of India, the Salesian province of New Delhi launched a new podcast series `Psyche & Soul`. Director of Sumedha Centre for Psychospiritual Wellbeing at Jeolikote, Uttarakhand Dr. Jose Parappully, Salesian priest and clinical psychologist says, ``the psychospiritual and educational reflection entitled `Psyche & Soul`, is a weekend podcast. I use insights from psychology, sacred scripture as well as the socio-political realities of our everyday life to help us enhance our emotional wellbeing and our spiritual life - our psyche and our soul.``

Sumedha, the centre for renewal of body, mind and spirit through insights and practices from psychology and spiritual traditions, is located in the rejuvenating lush green Kumaon foothills of the Himalayas, 18 km south of the tourist town of Nainital. Sumedha Sadhana, the PsychoSpiritual Wholeness Journey, which is the centre`s 9-week long niche programme, is especially useful for formators and leaders is scheduled for October to December, 2020.

Don Bosco Youth Animation [DBYA] South Asia delegates had a GoogleMeet on Tuesday 09 June 2020. Father Robert Simon, the new DBYA South Asia Delegate moderated the meet. South Asia Regional Councillor Father Biju Michael inspired the delegates to ``put the young person at the centre of Salesian youth ministry.`` Revising the DBYA Annual Plan, the delegates decided to implement the GC 28 guidelines and integrate the action plan of the Laudato Si` Year responding to the cry of the earth and the poor.

Social isolation resulting from the Corona lockdown in itself may not lead to negative psychological consequences. However, prolonged confinement with a group people in restricted space can strain relationships which in turn can cause negative consequences. It is not social isolation per se, but the feeling of being alone, that is, feeling disconnected or alienated that in a significant way leads to negative consequences such as depression and anxiety. The Salesians of Don Bosco, Bangalore Province, in collaboration with BREADS, the Development Office of the Province, have left no stone unturned regarding the physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual needs of people during the COVID-19 lockdown. The Salesian institutions across Kerala and Karnataka have offered 10,000 food kits to 16629 persons as of now and many more in the future. The cooked food packets are being distributed to 1050 persons daily from the two Salesian centres. 61000 masks were stitched by Don Bosco tailoring centres, SHG women and volunteers and distributed to hospital staff, police personnel, health officials, vendors, shop keepers and the general public. Fr. Joy Nedumparambil, Executive Director, BREADS, oversees with his team the humanitarian mission across the states.

The Salesians of Don Bosco in Mumbai, have taken the Covid-19 challenge head-on, in compliance with the civic administration`s directives, to bring relief aid to the most poor and abandoned within Mumbai City limits and in other parts of Maharashtra and Gujarat. In Mumbai City - Matunga, Wadala, Andheri and Nerul - MumbaiSalesians are ensuring that the necessary daily basic requirements of the most poor, especially of those residing in the slum pockets of Mumbai are being addressed, in their battle for survival against the Covid-19.

Father Agilan Sarprasadam SDB was installed as the fifth provincial of the Salesian Province of Annai Velankanni Tiruchy on 04 January 2020. The installation ceremony was held at the Mary Help of Christians Shrine, AMSAM, Trichy.

The XIV Provincial Chapter of the Sacred Heart Province of Bangalore was off to a glittering start at the Kristu Jyoti College Auditorium in Bangalore on Sunday 28th May, 2019. In the presence of 95 delegates, 14 observers and the moderator Father Sivy Koroth, Father Joyce Thonikuzhiyil, Salesian Provincial of Bangalore declared the Provincial Chapter open. Sister Celine Jacob the provincial of the FMAs Bangalore, Sister Reji Chacko, the provincial of the Missionary Sisters of Mary Help of Christians (MSMHC), Sister Carol Kuttiyanikal the provincial of the sisters of Mary Immaculate (SMI), the province level delegates of the different members of the Salesian family such as co-operators, past pupils, VDB and ADMA, were present on the occasion and felicitated the gathering.
