The Regional
The Regional Councillor is a member of the General Council who acts as a direct link between the Rector Major and the various world regions of the Congregation. The General Chapter 29 of the Society of St. Francis de Sales re-elected Father Biju Michael Pulianmackal as the General Councillor for South Asia Region for the second term up to 2031.
His role centers on liaison, representation, and animation, ensuring the Salesian mission remains dynamic and responsive. As a direct liaison, he facilitates communication between individual provinces and the Rector Major’s central council. He also serves as a representative of interests, safeguarding the needs of provinces within his region, while providing the General Council with local knowledge of cultural contexts and realities where the mission unfolds.
Beyond these functions, he is entrusted with animation, guiding and energizing the Salesian charism across his geographical area. The role has evolved to emphasize synodality and networking, moving past administrative oversight to foster communion and collaboration both within the Salesian Society and with civil and ecclesiastical partners. Councillors now play a key part in systematic animation, directly implementing the Congregation’s Six-Year Plan at the regional level by translating general chapter orientations into concrete pastoral and educational initiatives.

The Leaders’ Meeting of the Salesian Province of St. Joseph, Hyderabad, was held from October 13 to 15, 2025, at the Provincial House, Hyderabad, bringing together key Salesian leaders for days of reflection, learning, and discussion on legal, pastoral, and administrative matters.

(ANS - Rome) - At 7 am today, 15 September, Angel Fernandez Fernandez, the father of our Rector Major, Fr Angel Fernandez Artime, breathed his last after a long illness. Born in Luanco, Asturias, Spain, on 12 June 1932, he passed away after 89 years of life and 61 years of marriage by the side of his mother Isabel Artime.

Don Bosco Youth Centre, the educational-recreational hub in Shillong, has turned into a Corona Care Centre for those infected by Covid-19. The Centre became functional on May 6, 2021, under the leadership of its director Father Michael Makri, and assisted by five lay collaborators and the members of the Salesian Family, the Salesian Sisters (FMA) and the MSMHC Sisters. The Centre provides essential services to the post-Covid-19 patients who have completed the Covid-19 treatment from different hospitals.

The 12th Asia-Oceania online Regional Congress of Don Bosco Past Pupils marking the 150th anniversary of the World Association of Past Pupils concluded on June 26, 2021. The two-day event focused on Salesian Delegate, Young Past Pupils and Networking. Delegates and members from 23 out of 28 countries of the region participated. First-timers included participants from Bangladesh, Nepal, Mongolia, Solomon Islands and Sri Lanka.

His Holiness Pope Francis has appointed Most Rev. Leopoldo Girelli (67) as the new Apostolic Nuncio to India. Before the appointment to India, he was Apostolic Nuncio to Israel and Cyprus and Apostolic Delegate to Jerusalem and Palestine. The announcement came on Saturday, 13 March 2021, at 4:30 p.m.
