Youth Involve (YI), an initiative of Bosco Institute Jorhat, celebrated its 10th anniversary alongside the bicentennial of Don Bosco's dream from September 17–19 at Siloam, Umiam. Twenty-six young social entrepreneurs, leading as many social projects and initiatives from Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, and Nagaland, and their Salesian and lay mentors and coaches came together for three days of sharing experiences and insights, and learning from successes, failures, distractions and challenges through presentations, exhibitions, conversations, reflections, and group activities. They were welcomed by Fr. George Palamattam SDB, the founder of Siloam.
The Salesian Social Forum (SSF), a group of like-minded Salesians, held a two-day National Convention at Don Bosco Provincial House, Hyderabad, on August 10-11. The event, titled "Contextualizing the Dream of Don Bosco: A South Asian Workshop by Salesians in India Today," brought together about 40 Salesians from various Indian provinces to explore ways to renew Don Bosco's vision for the poor.
Following Don Bosco words, “Let the boys have full liberty to jump, run and make as much noise as they please. Gymnastics, music, theatrical and outings are most efficacious means of obtaining discipline and benefitting spiritual and bodily health,” the Don Bosco Shrine, Bandlaguda Jagir, Hyderabad, organized a day of sports and games for the youth of the Archdiocese of Hyderabad on February 10th. The introductory and concluding gathering focussed on imparting Don Bosco’s participatory and collaborative lifestyle in the Church and society.
The Vicar of the Rector, Major Father Stefano Martoglio, embarked on his first visit to Dimapur Province on October 22. He was accompanied by his Secretary, Father A. Patrick Anthonyraj, and Father L. Joseph Teron, the Vice Provincial of Guwahati Province. The visit marked a significant chapter in the region's Salesian history.
On Sunday, 23 October 2022, during the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of Don Bosco, Lonavla, the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, presented a citation to Mrs Sonali Shelke, in recognition for her social outreach among the poorest of the poor. Mrs Shelke has been on Don Bosco’s outreach staff since 2009. She resides at Bhaje village near Karla, 90 kilometers from Mumbai.
On 21 and 22 October 2022, 380 youth from across 29 Salesian institutions of the Province of Bombay participated in SYMBIOS 2022 at the Don Bosco campus in Matunga organised by the Youth Ministry Department of the Province. The theme of the event was ‘Do all through Love’. The topics that were touched upon were represented by the acronym ‘SWAG’ which stands for ‘Self, World, and God’.
The Don Bosco School Excellence Mission (DBSEM) organized a one-day programme at Don Bosco School, Panbazar, Guwahati, for students across Don Bosco schools of the Province of Guwahati to commemorate the centenary of the arrival of the Salesians to Northeast India. Students from 23 schools numbering 125 across Assam and Meghalaya States participated in six events.
