Under the theme "Fostering a Culture of Vocation," the Vocational Guidance team of Don Bosco Youth Animation South Asia organized an event for vocation guidance coordinators and promoters at Don Bosco Institute in Guwahati from 14th to 17th July 2023. The gathering aimed to unite the participants in their mission of promoting a Salesian youth ministry with vocation at its core.

With unemployment among the educated youth on a steady rise, the Apprenticeship Mela (Job Fair) conducted by Don Bosco Technical Institute, Park Circus, on February 13, 2023, at the request of the Directorate of Industrial Training, Government of West Bengal, was an opportunity for almost 300 participants.

The South Asia Delegate for Salesian Brothers, Br Joby Mani, animated the Salesian Brothers of Guwahati Province on the Identity of the Salesian Brother in the Church and the world at Bosco Mount, Tura, Meghalaya on December 3, 2022.

Having completed two years of post-novitiate training at Don Bosco College, Aluva, 16 Salesians of the Indian provinces of Bangalore, Delhi, and Trichy are ready for the mission.

As the Gospel of John 13: 15 reads, ``If I, therefore, the master and teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash one another`s feet. I have given you a model to follow so that as I have done for you, you should also do,`` the Don Bosco Youth, Lingarajapuram, washed one another`s feet at the celebration of the Lord`s Supper here at Bangalore. Unable to contain the emotions, one of the participants said, ``The celebration of the Last Supper was so beautiful. I am so touched, and I felt like the chosen.``

Don Bosco Bhavan Mannuthy, the cradle of Salesian formation for the Province of Bangalore, celebrated its Golden Jubilee of Foundation on January 30, 2021. Fr Joyce Thonikuzhiyil, Provincial, with Fr Jose Koyickal, Vice-provincial and the provincial designate, and Salesians, presided over the thanksgiving Holy Eucharist. Fifty lamps representing the fifty years were placed at the altar at the beginning of the Mass, reminding the fifty graceful and rays-filled years of Don Bosco Bhavan. The Jubilee candle lit for the past 364 days was lit once again by Fr John PK, Rector, in gratitude to God for the blessings.

The call of Jesus, to be fishers of men (Mathew 4:19) in the Don Bosco way, were heeded by four from Karnataka and eight from Kerala for the Province of Bangalore this year. The Sacred Heart Province of Bangalore (INK) is blessed with 12 new priests in the latter half of 2020 and at the beginning of 2021. Though the current pandemic protocol laid down restrictions, the ordination to the priesthood of these deacons was solemnized in the best way possible, attended by Salesians, relatives and well-wishers.

The Season of Creation - an ecumenical movement celebrated by the World Council of Churches along with the Catholic Church was launched at the MumbaiSalesians` Novitiate-Salesian Training Institute [STI] Nashik, on 04 September 2020. The month long celebration that began with an Eucharistic adoration is to culminate on the feast day of St Francis of Assisi on 04 October.

The Don Bosco South Asia Formation Commission with 25 participants, that consisted of the Formation Department team, composed of Fathers Silvio Roggia, Raymond Callo and Jose Kuttianimattathil, with the SPCSA Provincial Representative Father Joyce Mathew, Provincial of Bangalore [INK] and the Provincial Delegates for Formation, with the Provincial Vicars, met from 27-30 August 2020. The online meet was chaired by the General Councillor for Formation Father Ivo Coelho.

The annual Don Bosco Communication [BOSCOM] South Asia Executive Body Meeting took place via Google Meet on 17 and 18 July 2020. Convened by BOSCOM South Asia Delegate Father Ernest Rosario, the participants from the 11 provinces of South Asia were privileged to be accompanied throughout by the General Councillor for Social Communications Father Gildásio Mendez dos Santos. The executive body discussed, deliberated and debated the post-pandemic way forward on the theme, `How Can We Creatively Accompany Young People in the Virtual World`.

Father Wyman Gonsalves of the Salesian Province of Bombay [INB] was installed as Rector and Novice Master on 16 June 2020, at Salesian Training Institute [STI] in Nashik. MumbaiSalesians` Vice-Provincial Father Ashley Miranda presided at the installation ceremony.

Indian Salesian Father Thommai Antonyrajan of the Salesian Province of Tiruchy [INT] who was working in the Province of Sri Lanka [LKC], met a tragic end at sea, and was confirmed dead at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, 14 June 2020. He was aged 56. Father Thommai was a former Vice-Provincial of the Salesian Province of Tiruchy from 2005-2008.

The academic year of the post-novitiate - Salesian Institute of Philosophy, Jnanodaya - at `The Retreat` Yercaud, in Salem District of Tamil Nadu, began on 04 June 2020.

Indian Salesian Father Stephen Kuncherakatt died in Jerusalem on the night of 02 June 2020. He had been taken to the Italian hospital in Haifa for a check-up; the Salesians who accompanied him were unable to stay with him because of the emergency health rules and Father Kuncherakatt died in silence, accompanied by the sisters of the hospital. Agenzia iNfo Salesiana [ANS], the communication agency of the Salesians of Don Bosco, headquartered in Rome, published an article dated 08 June 2020, reproduced below.
