Bosco Youth, Bangalore Zone organized SNEHOTSAVA: A FESTIVAL OF FRIENDSHIP as part of the Zonal Convention at Don Bosco Church, Lingarajapuram. It was an event meant to give our young people an awareness on relationships. Fr. Joe Kokandathil SDB was the chief Resource Person for the day. 120 Bosco Youth from 6 Bosco Youth units of Bangalore Zone actively participated in the programme. 10 Salesians (priests & brothers) and 2 Salesian Sisters were present for the event. SNEHOTSAVA was indeed a rejuvenating experience for our young people after a year-long gap due to the pandemic and other related issues. SNEHOTSAVA had the special privilege of being visited by Rev. Fr. Biju Michael SDB, the Regional of South Asia, and Rev. Fr. Robert Simon, the National Coordinator for Don Bosco Youth Services.

Rome, 17 January 2021: A unique music project which united three continents: Asia, Europe and North America, and three countries: Italy, India, Canada, over a span of ten years had its world premiere at the first on-line and 39th Salesian Family Spirituality Days which took place in Rome, 15 to 17 January 2021.

The Spirituality Days of the Salesian Family take place online from Friday 15 to Sunday 17 January. To date, more than 5,000 registrations have already been made among the 12 regional-linguistic coordination centers.

The Season of Creation - an ecumenical movement celebrated by the World Council of Churches along with the Catholic Church was launched at the MumbaiSalesians` Novitiate-Salesian Training Institute [STI] Nashik, on 04 September 2020. The month long celebration that began with an Eucharistic adoration is to culminate on the feast day of St Francis of Assisi on 04 October.

Mumbai Salesians` Father [Dr.] Ajoy Fernandes who has a doctorate in Counselling Psychology with a major in Clinical Counselling and is Director Prafulta-Don Bosco Youth Counselling Services, Matunga-Mumbai, presents an online episodic video-series `Understanding and Helping Children with Learning Difficulties`. The video-series starting today 05 September, and to be aired on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of every month, on the MumbaiSalesians` Youtube Channel, are broken up into short 10-minute interactive inputs describing the symptoms of learning and related difficulties; the formal and informal ways of assessing these difficulties; the types of beneficial interventions possible and the government-endorsed concessions across India. This is a Teachers` Day gift from the famed clinical psychologist, as an appreciation to teachers all over, who mould, nourish, nurture, inspire, motivate, enlighten and mentor students on a daily basis.

The Don Bosco South Asia Formation Commission with 25 participants, that consisted of the Formation Department team, composed of Fathers Silvio Roggia, Raymond Callo and Jose Kuttianimattathil, with the SPCSA Provincial Representative Father Joyce Mathew, Provincial of Bangalore [INK] and the Provincial Delegates for Formation, with the Provincial Vicars, met from 27-30 August 2020. The online meet was chaired by the General Councillor for Formation Father Ivo Coelho.

The Don Bosco Salesian Provincial Conference of South Asia [SPCSA] Assembly is currently in progress from 01 to 03 September 2020 via the virtual medium. Convoked under the leadership of the SPCSA President Father Biju Michael, South Asia Regional Councillor, 40 Salesians are participating in this virtual assembly including Province Delegates and South Asia Sector and Dimenison Coordinators, apart from the Provincials of the South Asia region.

Indian Salesian Father Ernest Rosario, South Asia Delegate for Social Communication is appointed Coordinator for the newly established Salesian International Commission for Social Communication, as of 26 August 2020. At an online meet organized by the General Councilor for Social Communications, Father Gildasio dos Santos Mendes, attended by the Coordinators of the Delegates for Social Communication of the various Regions - Zaida Elisa Navarrete (America), Father Pierluigi Lanotte (Mediterranean Europe), Fatherr James Gardner (Central-Northern Europe), Father Ernest Rosario (South Asia), Father Lijo Vadakkan (Africa-Madagascar) and Father Peter P Chinh (East Asia-Oceania) - Father Rosario was requested to head the newly established international committee.

Don Bosco Alumnus/Past-Pupil Shri Robert Shetkintong (Dilbung) has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. Robert joined the Indian Foreign Service in 2001. In 2003, he was posted to the Indian Mission in Tel Aviv as a language trainee (Hebrew). On completion of language course, he was posted to the Indian Embassy in Rome, and was there for almost 4 years. He then returned to New Delhi and served at the Headquarters between 2009 and 2012. He subsequently served at the Indian Mission in Ljubljana (Slovenia) and Dar-es-Salaam (Tanzania).

The Don Bosco Network-BOSCONET Annual Provincial Development Office (PDO) Meet was held on 20 August 2020. The online video conference saw the participation of 11 PDO offices, alongwith BOSCONET Provincial In-charge Father Agilan Sarprasadam [INT] and BOSCONET staff. The meeting began with BOSCONET DIrector Father Noel Maddhichetty and Asst. Director Father Santhan Ubagram welcoming all the participants and inviting Father Jayaprakash-Director, Bosco Reach Out, to lead the prayer. Father Sarprasadam extended appreciation to BOSCONET for raising funds to facilitate Don Bosco India`s relief operations during the pandemic. The PDOs were lauded for carrying out COVID-19 emergency relief work on a massive scale across India.

The young people voiced out in 06 minutes each, their varied experiences, during the pandemic months, of actively demonstrating love for God, love for neighbour and love for nature

The opening session of the virtual meet of the Salesian Youth Movement Coordinators of South Asian Region on the International Youth Day [12 Aug 2020] was addressed by Father Jerry Thomas Don Bosco South Asia Green Alliance Coordinator. Speaking on ``Empowering the Young to lead Movements`` he invited SYM animators and leaders to ``Listen to the dreams of the young and enable them to live their dreams and passions.`` The challenge thrown to the 16 participants representing the provinces of South Asia was, ``What is the non-negotiable rule of your presence? Is it that every young person who visits any of the Salesian presence feels like returning again?``

Father [Dr] Francis Karackat of the Salesian Province of Bangalore [INK] has penned 02 books,`Journalism: A Manual for Budding Reporters` and `Journalism: A Manual for Budding Sub-Editors`. Father Karackat, with a University of Kerala Doctorate in Journalism on `Ethics in Newspaper Journalism in Kerala`, is also the recipient of the `Best Inspiring Writer in Malayalam`-Shalom Media Award 2019, and is an acclaimed author of 33 books.
