The traditional Salesian Provincial Community Day was celebrated in a new style at Nitika Don Bosco on 9th August, 2014. Along with 54 confreres of Kolkata Province who participated in the Rectors` and Parish Priests` Meet, other confreres from the institutions in the vicinity came together to felicitate Fr. Nirmol Gomes, the two month old provincial.

The official inauguration of B. Ph. Programme at Salesian college Sonada was held on Thursday 17th July 2014. The function commenced at 9.30 AM with the lighting of the lamp by the chief guest Rt. Rev. Bishop Stephen Lepcha, Bishop of Darjeeling Diocese.

Salesian College students shine at the International Service-Learning in Philippines

Four students from Salesian College Sonada participated in the International Conference and Service-Learning (ISL) programme under the theme ``Disaster Response, Community Resilience, and the Role of the University`` from 28th June to 11th July 2014 in Iloilo City, Philippines. The student representatives of Salesian College were Vikash Gupta, Naresh Agarwal, Snom Panlook and Ramachand Shimray. They were accompanied by Salesian Fr. Ujjol Mondol. Fr. Mathew Pallipparampil Takes Eternal Rest

Funeral of Fr. Mathew Pallipparampil (PV) SDB was held in the Marian Basilica at Bandel, 28 June, 2014, in the presence of a large gathering of people including Salesian confreres, other religious, relations of the deceased and lay Faithful. Fr. Nirmol Gomes, Provincial presided at the Holy Eucharist with more than 65 priests concelebrating wth him. The following words inscribed on the altar panel summarised fittingly the life of Fr. PV Mathew, aged 72, who had passed away on 24 June, 2014: ``I will give you Shepherds after my own heart who will guide you with knowledge and understanding,`` (Jer. 3:15).

Fr. Mathew Pallipparampil Remembered at Provincial House, Kolkata

A Requiem Mass was celebrated at Provincial House, Kolkata on 25th June, 2014 in memory of Fr. Mathew Pallipparampil who passed away on 24th June, 2014. Along with his sister Sr. Jessy FMA and his niece Sr. Leelamma FMA, Salesians from the nearby communities and numerous other religious participated in the Eucharist.

A SAINT IS LAID TO REST: Funeral of Br. VD Varkey Held at Bandel Basilica

Br. Varkey Villuviruthil (V.D.), who had passed away on 12th June, 2014 was laid to rest at Bandel Basilica in the presence of over 70 Salesians, members of the Salesian Family, numerous relatives, friends and lay faithful. Fr. Nirmol Gomes, Provincial, presided over the funeral Mass, at 2.30 PM. Fr. Joseph Kizhakkekara, former Provincial of Kolkata and New Delhi, performed the funeral rites in the church and Fr. Thomas Ellicherail, former Provincial of Kolkata Province, presided over the rite of final commendation at the cemetery.

Governor of West Bengal Visits Salesian College, Sonada

35th Batch Begins their Novitiate Formation in Siliguri

The 35th batch of novices from the Salesian provinces of Guwahati, Kolkata and New Delhi commenced their formation at Nazareth Bhavan, Siliguri on 28th May, 2014 with Fr. Jose Pampadiyil, the vice-provincial of Kolkata presiding over the induction ceremony. There are now 16 in this batch; two more are expected to join this group soon.

16th Salesian Provincial of Kolkata Installed

Fr. Nirmol Vincent Gomes was installed as the 16th Provincial of St. John Bosco Province, Kolkata by Fr. Maria Arokiam Kanaga South Asian Regional Councillor, at Don Bosco School Park Circus at 10.30 AM on May 31, 2014. In a simple ceremony attended by His Grace Thomas D`Souza Archbishop of Kolkata, His Grace Lucas Sirkar Archbishop Emeritus of Kolkata, numerous other dignitaries, Salesians, Salesian Family Members and other religious, Fr. Nirmol took the oath of office. Fr. Thomas Ellicherail the outgoing provincial was given a moving farewell as he laid down his office as provincial.

Bimol Hembrom Memorial Scholarships (BHMS) were awarded to six Santal Catholic students of Post Graduate and Technical Engineering at an impressive ceremony held in the premises of the Catholic Church, Azimganj on 4th May 2014. It was presided over by Fr. Nirmol Gomes SDB, the Provincial-elect of the Salesian Province of Kolkata.

Kolkata Province Bids Farewell to Br. Paul Bikho

Br. Paul Bikho, a humble, simple and hard working Salesian Brother from Kolkata Province, was laid to rest at Bandel Basilica on 27th February 2014 in the presence of numerous Salesian Confreres and Salesian Family members, teachers and friends. The funeral Mass was presided over by Rt. Rev Joseph Gomes,Bishop of Krishnanagar Diocese while the final commendation was done by Fr. Jose Pampadiyil, Vice Provincial.

The only feast we celebrate in the novitiate was celebrated with fervour on January 30 and 31, 2014 at Nazareth Bhavan the Salesian novitiate.The participants from the local institutions witnessed a fusion of spiritual and cultural elements since the novices come from provinces as Kolkata, New Delhi and Guwahati.
