A new book entitled ``From Maternal Uncle to Father: An Anthropological Study on Changing Patriarchy among the Khasis`` authored by Dr. Barnes Mawrie sdb, was released on 20 March 2015, at Don Bosco Youth Centre, Shillong. Archbishop Dominic Jala was the Chief Guest at the book release which took place in the presence of a large gathering.

Formation Commission of the Salesians of South Asia met in Mumbai, October 6-10, for their annual meet and to review the state of initial formation, spiritual accompaniment and use of personal media by those in formation. The annual South Asia Formation Commission meeting was held at Don Bosco Provincial house, Matunga. The 20 participants consisting of the Regional Councillor Fr Maria Arokiam Kanaga and formation Delegates from each of the South Asian provinces, discussed at length certain key issues pertaining to the formation processes in place in the region. The meeting was chaired by the General Councillor for formation Fr Ivo Coelho.

Leaders of the communities of the Salesian province of Silchar gathered at Pastoral Centre, Shillong on 7-8 October for their annual meeting. The sessions were effectively guided by Fr George Palamattathil, Director, Siloam Transformational Leadership Resource Center, Umsaw. The meeting also resulted in certain land mark deliberations for the Province.

A photography exhibition cum competition was inaugurated at Don Bosco Technical School, Shillong on Tuesday, 7 October. The three-day exhibition, open to all, was based on the theme `Shillong`. The objective of the exhibition is to encourage photography enthusiasts, promote good photography and to provide them with an avenue to display their talents.

The 37th Annual Meet of the Association of Salesian Cooperators (ASC) of the Shillong-Silchar Province was held at Sts. Peter and Paul Parish, Pynthorumkhrah and hosted by Bellefonte centre on the 13th and 14th of September 2014. The theme of the Meet was `Salesian Cooperators accompanying Family and Youth`.

Archbishop Dominic Jala of Shillong exhorted the altar boys to be `regular for the Eucharist so that the seed of vocation can grow and mature` in them. The prelate was speaking at the thanksgiving Eucharist celebrated together with all priests and religious that hailed from Mawlai parish on 24th August 2014 at the Parish Church. The event, organized as part of the yearlong celebrations of the ongoing platinum jubilee of the parish, was an occasion to thank God for the 75 years of blessings together with the parishioners and the 16 priests and 53 religious nuns that hailed from its villages.

Fr James Pulickal, an Indian missionary working in East Africa for the past 34 years addressed the Staff and the Students of Sacred Heart Theological College, Mawlai on Monday, 25th August. He shared his experiences as a hostage in the hands of extremists, the demands of a missionary life in Africa, his own spiritual struggle when faced with negative experiences, and a snapshot of Christian presence in South Sudan.

Shillong: The Salesian Family of Shillong-Silchar region held the inauguration of the Bicentenary of Don Bosco`s birth at Sacred Heart Theological College, Mawlai, 16th August 2014. The programme began with a solemn Eucharistic celebration, at 9.30am, presided by Rev. Fr. George Maliekal SDB, the Provincial of the Salesian Province, Silchar, at the Sacred Heart Shrine, Mawlai. Present were a number of priests and religious from institutions in and around Shillong together with representatives of the Salesian Cooperators and a large group of youth.

An inter regional ongoing formation course for Salesian Missionaries working in the South Asian, East Asian and African regions began on August 2, 2014 at Don Bosco Provincial House, Mathias Institute, Shillong, India. It is organised by the Missions department of the Generalate in close collaboration with Vendrame Missiological Insititute, Sacred Heart Theological College, Shillong. There are 23 participants in the programme - 19 Salesians, 2 FMAs and 2 Visitation Sisters of Don Bosco.

The new Academic Year 2014-15 was inaugurated at Sacred Heart Theological College, Mawlai, Shillong on 5 August 2014. Archbishop Dominic Jala presided over the solemn Eucharistic Celebration invoking the gifts of the Holy Spirit. `Minimalism is a dreadful thing in the study of theology`, Archbishop Dominic exhorted during the homily. The Salesian Provincials of New Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati, Dimapur and Silchar and several priests from Shillong concelebrated with him.

Fr. Guillermo Basañes, Salesian Regional Councillor for Missions, released a new missionary animation bulletin, ANIMA, on 3 August 2014 at Don Bosco, Shillong in the presence of Archbishops Dominic Jala, Thomas Menamparampil, and several other Salesian Provincial Superiors and others. Anima is a new initiative of the missionary animation team of South Asia, and is the first one of its kind in the South Asian region of the Salesians.

Fr. Guillermo Basañes, the General Councilor of the Salesians of Don Bosco for Missions is on a visit to the province of Silchar from 2-6 August 2014. On 3 August he was given a warm welcome at Don Bosco Technical School, Shillong. Archbishop Dominic Jala, Archbishop (Emeritus) Thomas Menamaparampil, Salesian Provincials of New Delhi, Dimapur and Silchar together with a large number of Salesians and young people accorded a colourful welcome to Fr. Basañes.

The mortal remains of Fr. Sebastian Karotemprel was laid to rest at the Laitumkhrah Catholic Cemetery on 23 July after a prayerful funeral Mass at the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians, Shillong. The funeral Mass was presided over by Rt. Rev. Gregory Karotemprel, younger brother of Fr. Sebastian. Hundreds of priests, religious, Sisters and Brothers came from near and far to be present for the requiem Mass. Archbishop Dominic Jala of Shillong conducted the funeral rites at the cemetery. Fr. George Maliekal, the provincial of Silchar province, paid rich homage to Fr. Karotemprel. The text of his homage is given below.

Shillong (Bosco Information Service, BIS) Internationally renowned theologian, author and founder of several missionary institutions in Northeast India, Salesian Father Sebastian Karotemprel passed away in Shillong, Meghalaya, July 20. He was 83. The funeral will be held in Shillong, on July 23 at 1 p.m. Fr. George Malekal sdb, Provincial Superior of the Salesian Province of Silchar to which Fr Karotemprel belonged, said Fr Sebastian has left his own indelible mark on the Church and society.

The Shrine of the Sacred Heart of Jesus at Sacred Heart Theological College, Mawlai-Shillong, Meghalaya, India was Inaugurated by Rev. Fr. George Maliekal, Sdb, the Salesian Provincial of Silchar and dedicated during the solemn Eucharistic celebration by Most Rev. Dominic Jala, SDB, DD, the Archbishop of Shillong on 8th June 2014 in the presence of distinguished guests, parish and religious communities in and around Shillong. Rev. Fr. V.M. Thomas, Sdb, the Salesian Provincial of Guwahati also graced the occasion. It was also the day of pilgrimage of the devotees of the Sacred Heart of Jesus to the Shrine from various parishes and religious communities.
