KAPADVANJ-GUJARAT: The community of Kapadvanj organized a two day camp for boys of Katlal and Ahmedabad from the 6th to the 8th of April, 2015. The camp commenced by invoking God`s blessing through a prayer song. Br. Anthony Patole helped the boys feel at home and get acquainted with one another.

March 24, 2015, was an auspicious day in Divyadaan, Salesian Institute of Philosophy as the community celebrated the Silver Jubilee of Ordination of a silver haired man, Fr Matthew Coutinho sdb. Fr Matthew, ordained on the same day in the year 1990 by late Bishop Simon Pimenta, was felicitated for his years of fidelity and service, at the community level. His parents, sisters and brother-in-law were present for the function besides the community of Divyadaan and religious from neighbouring communities.

The first water tap of the locality was inaugurated on March 14, 2015. This is a great victory for people whose struggle started in 2008 and culminated in 2015 with getting their entitlement to water and sanitation in their slum.

Caring, for youth and environment, is a focus area of the Salesians of Don Bosco worldwide, based on the sound belief that growth must be environmentally sound and widespread to reduce poverty and build collective prosperity for present and future generations. And measures to accomplish it are ongoing at every Don Bosco Institution in India and abroad.
At Don Bosco Kurla, an International Conference ``Technologies for Sustainable Development`` on a significantly large scale was held from 4-6 February, 2015 befitting the 50th Anniversary of the Campus at Kurla and also the Bicentenary of the birth of its founder Don Bosco. The Conference resulted in the setting up of a research Centre for Social Development on the campus.

In commemoration of the bicentenary of Don Bosco`s birth, the Salesians of Don Bosco of Ahmednagar Region organized a ``Youth Dhamaka``, on 8 March, 2015, attended by over 200 youngsters from nine parishes of the region. The theme of the youth fest was `Called to be Leaders` with special focus on Don Bosco`s constant exhortation to his boys of being honest citizens and good Christians.

The 10th of March, 2015 was an enjoyable day for the students of Don Bosco, Oros as the school celebrated the Value-Education day. The Pre-Novitiate Course Boys were also invited for the event. The PNC boys had been taking Value-Education classes for the students of Std. V-IX. This year the classes were on the life and Mission of Don Bosco, being the bicentenary year of his birth.

Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS) in association with Greater Mumbai Co-operative Bank, RG Stone Hospital - Khar, and Don Bosco Alumni - Matunga Unit, jointly organized a Medical Health Camp on 7-8 March, 2015 for the marginalized and underprivileged Women of the Self Help Groups from various centres such as Sewri, Dharavi, Kurla, Wadala and Antop hill of Mumbai city. The Medical Health camp was organised on the premises of Don Bosco Provincial House as a part of the International Women`s Day celebration.

Four MPh candidates of Divyadaan Salesian Institute, Nashik successfully completed the defense of their dissertations on March 5, 2015. Submission of a research paper on a philosophical theme is one of the requirements in the fulfillment of the Masters in Philosophy. Onimon Kanai, Manoj Kumar, Nelson Mudaliar and Christopher Xavier defended their papers before a panel of three professors in the presence of other faculty members and students.

The Literary Council of Don Bosco Institute of Technology, Kurla hosted Samvaad- the voice of the people, an inter-collegiate debate competition on Saturday, 28 February 2015. Students from 12 colleges across Mumbai participated in the debate which was held in the Santino Mondini hall. The venue had the ambience of the Indian Parliament.

The Salesian Provinces of Mumbai and Panjim were proud to witness the diaconate ordination of nine young Salesians at the Sacred Heart Parish Yerwada, Pune on 22 February 2015. Rev. Bishop Thomas Dabre, Bishop of Pune Diocese, ordained Clerics Richard, Roshan, Ashwin, Leon, Dinesh, Austin, Crescens, Kiran and Jason as deacons. The theme chosen for the ordination was, ``Witnessing Christ through love and service.``

Nearly 4,000 thousand children, youth and adults from all faiths came to witness the Bicentenary celebration of St John Bosco`s birth at the Don Bosco Shrine Grounds, Matunga, on 31 January. Towards the end of the Eucharistic Celebration His Eminence Cardinal Oswald Gracias, Archbishop of Mumbai launched the book entitled ``Exploring Salesian Life Today`` by Chrys Saldanha.
