Don Bosco Kohima Celebrates NPSC Achievers

16 August 2026
News reported by: Fr. Blasius Tete sdb, IND
In a grand celebration of academic excellence and dedication, Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Kohima, organised a felicitation programme at its School Auditorium on August 14 to honour its successful alumni who secured top ranks in the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC) Examination 2026

The event, held under the inspiring theme “Dream. Believe. Achieve.”, brought together faculty, students, and distinguished guests to celebrate the success of five exemplary Bosconians: Virienuo Emilia Solo, Philomina Rutsa, and Richungmong T, who secured the post of Extra Assistant Commissioner; Keneisa-ü Kense, selected as District Commandant; and Neiputshekho Zhünyü, who secured the post of Assistant Jailor.

The newly selected officers shared their experiences, attributing their monumental success to the deep-seated values and foundations laid during their schooling years. Recalling cherished memories, they highlighted that their journey was not merely about academic results but about personal growth.

The achievers explained that they benefited by learning the vital importance of obedience to God, parents, and teachers, alongside persistence and perseverance in pursuing long-term goals. Rather than fearing setbacks, they learned to embrace failure as an essential part of the learning journey. They urged the young Bosconians to make the most of their school years, enjoy every step of the process, and create lasting memories with friends and mentors.

Addressing the candidates as his “junior colleagues,” the Special Guest of the programme, Deputy Commissioner of Kohima District, B Henok Buchem, NCS, reminded the officers of the profound societal impact of their new roles. Buchem, himself an alumnus of the school, emphasised that civil service is not merely a prestigious career but a vital opportunity to serve society and contribute to the development of the State.

“Authority is entrusted to a civil servant not for personal glory or status; it is for public good and public service,” Buchem stated, reiterating that “public office is a public trust”.

Buchem advised the young officers to always be guided by the Constitution, the law, and their conscience, while remaining humane in the exercise of authority.

The ceremony served as a powerful spark of inspiration for the current student body. Highlighting the achievable nature of this success, DC Buchem pointed out that the celebrated alumni were once students sitting in the very same classrooms, proving that future generations can reach the same heights.

Buchem shared his own personal journey—recalling how a childhood thought, sparked by hearing a classmate speak, eventually led him to join the Nagaland Civil Service in 2004, despite failing on his very first attempt. His story, combined with those of the newly selected officers, showcased that successful civil servants are often people of “iron will and determination” who endure failures and disappointments before achieving their goals. He urged the students not to fear failure but to actively develop good character, respect for others, leadership qualities, and a strong sense of social responsibility.
