Don Bosco College Golaghat Marks International Youth Day with Youth Assembly

Don Bosco College, Golaghat, marked International Youth Day 2026 with a Youth Assembly organised by the DBCG Youth Club in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC). The event brought together students from diverse backgrounds to deliberate on issues shaping the future of young people.

Held at the DBCG Assembly Hall under the theme “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations,” the programme provided a platform for youth participation, representation and dialogue on social, environmental and political concerns affecting the younger generation.

Fr. Dr A. Amalados, Principal of Don Bosco College, Golaghat, highlighted the growing role of young people as change-makers and catalysts for social transformation. Referring to youth-led developments and movements in Bangladesh, Nepal, Indonesia and India, he stressed their capacity to influence society and contribute to meaningful change.

Ms Arpita Duwara, Assistant Professor and President of the DBCG Youth Club, explained the significance of International Youth Day and introduced this year's theme. The inaugural session also featured a group song and an inspirational message from Fr Rector Kamel Horo, Chairman of the Youth Assembly.

The second session introduced the DBCG Youth Club and the Youth Assembly. Mr Mukrang Bey, Club Representative, presented the initiative. Mr Gaurav Dey, Youth Club Coordinator and Assistant Professor in the Department of Commerce, outlined the Assembly’s objectives and significance as a forum for youth participation and dialogue. He also drew attention to major global challenges and the responsibility of young people in addressing them.

Lt John Kisku, ANO and Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science, administered a Youth Pledge.

The Youth Assembly formed the central feature of the programme, with representatives from various departments and student bodies voicing their views on issues affecting young people. Discussions highlighted education and youth participation, as well as climate change, conflict, migration, governance, social responsibility and the aspirations of the younger generation.

The deliberations gained depth through the participation of representatives from Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh, whose diverse regional experiences broadened understanding of the challenges and aspirations shared by young people across different contexts.

The programme concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, panel feedback and messages. Mr Songsar Langneh, Secretary of the DBCG Youth Club, proposed the vote of thanks, and the event ended with the National Anthem.
