Hospitality trainees, parents and partners celebrate Certification Day at the BIDS Centre in Shillong.
Don Bosco Tech Honours 130 Hospitality Trainees; 107 Secure Jobs Across India

Don Bosco Tech Society’s Bosco Integrated Development Society (BIDS) and Mawkasiang centres, supported by the Meghalaya State Skill Development Society (MSSDS), held Certification Day at the BIDS Centre in Shillong on July 29 for hospitality trainees who completed housekeeping training and secured jobs across India.
The MSSDS-sponsored skill development programmes aimed to equip young people with industry-relevant competencies and improve their access to sustainable jobs in the hospitality sector.
The event honoured the trainees for their commitment and transition into the workforce. As several graduates had already reported to workplaces outside Meghalaya, their certificates were received by their parents, reflecting both their achievements and their families’ support throughout the training period.
The BIDS Centre trained 46 candidates in two batches, with 41 already placed in employment. The first batch recorded a placement rate of 24 out of 25 trainees, while 17 of the 21 trainees in the second batch secured jobs. The remaining four candidates are being assisted in finding suitable local employment.
The Mawkasiang Centre trained 84 youth across five batches and placed 66 candidates. Together, the two centres trained 130 young people and facilitated jobs for 107 trainees, most of whom are between 18 and 27 years of age.
Around 55 parents attended the ceremony to receive certificates on behalf of their children. Certificates were also presented to BIDS trainees who recently completed their training and are now preparing to begin their professional careers.
Addressing the gathering, Digbijoy Sinha of MSSDS congratulated the trainees and praised Don Bosco Tech Society for its sustained commitment to youth skill development and placement support. He urged young people to move beyond their comfort zones and seek employment outside the state.
Sinha reaffirmed MSSDS’s continued support for strengthening placement initiatives and emphasised that a skilled, employable youth population is vital to Meghalaya’s economic and social progress.
Fr James Thyrniang, Director of BIDS, encouraged the trainees to continue upgrading their skills and view vocational education as a pathway to meaningful employment and personal growth. He noted that the collaboration between Don Bosco Tech and MSSDS has created sustainable livelihood opportunities for young people across Meghalaya. He also highlighted Don Bosco Tech’s nationwide network, which enables the organisation to provide guidance and support to trainees even after they begin working in different parts of the country.
Sr Remo Madhalene, Centre Head of Mawkasiang, congratulated the graduates and urged them to remain disciplined, resilient and committed as they begin their professional careers. She stressed that continuous learning, adaptability and a positive attitude would be key to long-term success in the hospitality industry.
The programme also featured video testimonials from alumni employed in hotels across India. The former trainees shared how the training built their confidence, prepared them with industry-ready skills and helped them secure stable jobs.
