Don Bosco Technical School, Shillong, with the initiative of Don Bosco Tech Society, inaugurated the T-TEP (Toyota Technical Education Program) in Meghalaya, with Automotive Skill Development Corporation (ASDC), the key partner for the implementation of the project. The programme focuses on students from rural areas to enhance their skills, thus strengthening their employability through a unique training initiative.
Don Bosco Technical School, Shillong, was privileged with a visit from the Honourable Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Mr Conrad K Sangma, on June 28. His free and spontaneous interaction with the trainees motivated them and encouraged them to strive patiently through training for employment or entrepreneurship.
Don Bosco Tech and LTI Mindtree signed up for skill training focusing on East and North East India. The formal inauguration of the partnership kicked off with an event at Don Bosco ITI, Krishnanagar, West Bengal, the centre of skill training. The event was organized on June 16 by the Provincial leadership team from the Province of Kolkata and CSR Leadership from LTI Mindtree company.
The Student Council and Cultural Club of Don Bosco Arts and Science College, Chennai , organised its first ever mega Intercollegiate Cultural Fest, JIVE’23, on March 13 and 14 with the theme “Choose life! Say no to drugs! It hosted participants from around 200+ colleges (Arts and Science, Medical and Engineering) in and around Chennai. The cultural fest had 17 on and off-stage events in which 1250 students from various colleges like Loyola, Stella Maris, Patrician, Gurunanak, WCC, MGC, St. Thomas, St. Joseph’s, MGR University, Vels University, Madras University, Stanley Medical College and Ramachandra Medical College participated.
The 12th Annual National Convention of all Don Bosco Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) centres of India was held from February 3 to 5, 2023, at Don Bosco Skill Mission, Bangalore (Karnataka), with the theme, 'Let’s Reconnect' to revisit the origins of the network and closely look at the skilling memory lane with the idea of looking ahead to impact the lives of the needy youth in large numbers.
The Missionary Sisters of Mary Help of Christians (MSMHC), the first indigenous congregation of Northeastern India, has marked its 80th foundation anniversary.
The Rector Major, Fr. Angel Fernandez Artime, interacted with the members of the Salesian family at Don Bosco Institute Guwhati. Provincials and councils of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, Missionary Sisters of Mary Help of Christians, Sisters of Mary Immaculate, Salesian Co-operators, former Provincials, Vice-Provincials of Salesian Provinces of India were present for the meeting.
The Rector Major, Fr. Angel Fernandez Artime, was received at the Guwahati airport by Fr. Januarius S. Sangma and Fr. Jose Kuruvachira, provincials of Guwahati and Dimapur, respectively. At the Provincial House, RM was received with great joy and enthusiasm by the Salesian confreres, Sister Provincials of FMA, MSMHC and SMI, Sisters, co-operators, past pupils, laity and collaborators from the parishes and centres, students and young people.
Rector Major, Fr. Ángel Fernández Artime, arrived in Mumbai, India, on October 21, 2022, on a 10-day visit to the provinces of Mumbai, Guwahati and Shillong. The Tenth successor of Don Bosco will join the celebrations of the Centenary of the arrival of Salesians in Northeast India from October 24.
At an event marking Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav - 75 years of India’s independence - and Literacy Day, Church Art Kolkata honoured three Salesians for outstanding contributions to society along with several other eminent citizens at Indian Council for Cultural Relations Kolkata in Satyajit Ray auditorium on September 8, 2022. The Salesian achievers honoured were Bishop George Palliparambil of Miao diocese of Eastern Arunachal, Fr Sacria Nedumattathil of Don Bosco Human Resource Centre West Midnapore, and Fr. C.M. Paul, director of Radio Salesian Darjeeling.
Sneha (27), differently abled, was looked after by her mother for several years until her death a few months back. She was then looked after by her maternal uncle and another good-hearted lady, Lourdumary, who cared for her as a family member. But the time has come for Sneha for more care and attention than before. Hence, the Salesian Cooperators at Lingarajapuram decided to take Sneha to the Missionaries of Charity for more care.
Father Bernard Fernandes SDB (INB) passed away on May 24 after suffering a cardiac arrest. Father Bernard leaves behind a legacy that one can only dream of imitating. He has contributed generously to the education sector for more than a decade. The teachers under his mentorship and students under his tutelage have felt his warm Salesian educative presence in their lives.
The 15th Provincial Chapter of the Salesian Province of Bangalore began at Kristu Jyoti College, Bangalore, on April 24, 2022, to discuss the implementation of the General Chapter with the theme, ‘What Kind of Salesians for the Youth of Today. In the presence of ninety-six delegates and Salesian Family members, Father Jose Koyickal, Provincial, inaugurated PC 15.
