Legal Identity for the Marginalised: 40 Don Bosco Navajeevan Children Receive Certificates under Praja Palana Initiative
The Department of Women and Child Development (WCD) organised a certificate distribution programme for children of Don Bosco Navajeevan (DBNJ) centres, helping them access essential identity documents.
The initiative was conducted as part of the 99-day “Praja Palana” programme launched by Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, which aims to extend welfare benefits and governance services to vulnerable populations.
Sri Faizan Ahmed, IAS, Additional Collector of Medchal-Malkajgiri district, attended the programme as the chief guest. In his address, he emphasised the transformative importance of legal documentation in a digitised society. “In today’s technology-driven world, these certificates are the keys to education, employment, and access to government schemes,” he said.
Encouraging digital adoption, Ahmed urged beneficiaries and administrators to utilise platforms such as DigiLocker to store and access important records securely.
A total of 40 children received birth, caste, and orphan certificates during the programme, marking a critical milestone in their journey towards formal recognition. An additional 35 children are currently obtaining their documents. For many of these beneficiaries, the certificates represent more than administrative paperwork—they establish legal identity, enabling access to scholarships, welfare schemes, and formal entitlements as citizens of India.
Fr. Mahesh SDB, representing Don Bosco Navajeevan, outlined the organisation’s extensive outreach across Hyderabad’s twin cities, with a focus on rescuing and rehabilitating children and youth at risk. He acknowledged the crucial support of the WCD in navigating bureaucratic processes and ensuring timely documentation.
Commending the organisation’s sustained efforts, Ahmed praised DBNJ for its professional approach and commitment to the marginalised. He assured the district administration of continued cooperation in advancing these humanitarian initiatives.
