DISHA Don Bosco Strengthens Women’s Leadership Through SHG Training
DISHA Don Bosco, Kawant, organized a one-day training programme for women from Self-Help Groups (SHGs), reaffirming its commitment to fostering social and economic empowerment among rural women. A total of 35 women representing six SHGs participated in the session, which aimed to strengthen their understanding of SHG functioning and enhance their capacity for collective growth.
The training was led by Fr. Dr. Mayank Parmar, SDB, Director of DISHA Don Bosco and an experienced social work researcher in women’s empowerment. His interactive and research-based approach helped participants connect theoretical concepts to their everyday realities, making the session both practical and inspiring.
The programme began with a welcome address by Mr. Arvind Rathwa, who underscored the importance of equipping women with financial literacy and leadership skills to become self-reliant contributors to their families and communities.
An engaging discussion led by Fr. Parmar invited participants to share their understanding of SHG structures and objectives, paving the way for an open exchange of ideas. A short documentary, “Ame Amara Taranhar” (We Are Our Own Saviours), showcased real-life stories of women who overcame economic hardships through support from SHGs. The film resonated deeply, illustrating the transformative power of unity, discipline, and mutual support.
Through a PowerPoint presentation, Fr. Parmar elaborated on the dual role of SHGs in ensuring financial stability and fostering social solidarity. “A Self-Help Group is not only about saving money — it is about saving dignity, building trust, and creating opportunities for women to stand on their own feet,” he emphasized.
The participants expressed renewed motivation to strengthen their groups and extend SHG benefits to more women in their villages. The session concluded with a shared commitment to self-reliance, leadership, and community transformation — values at the heart of DISHA Don Bosco’s mission to empower rural women.
