Pope Leo XIV has recognised the heroic virtues of Bishop Orestes Marengo, SDB, declaring him Venerable and advancing his cause for beatification and eventual canonisation. A pioneering missionary bishop, he dedicated his life to the people of Northeast India.
The Salesian Brothers of the Guwahati Province met at Shallang Parish from October 24 to 25 for their annual gathering, centring on fraternity, spiritual renewal, and a deeper understanding of their identity, vocation, and mission in the Church and the Salesian Congregation.
St. Stephen Catholic Church, Tangla, celebrated its Platinum Jubilee on October 20, commemorating 75 years of faith, missionary presence and service to the people of Tangla and neighbouring areas. The celebration brought together two bishops, Salesian leaders, civil representatives, priests, religious and parishioners for a solemn Eucharistic celebration and thanksgiving.

The Annual Youth Ministry Delegates and Network Heads Meeting 2026, hosted at Siloam, Umsawkhwan in Ri-Bhoi District, concluded after five days of reflection, dialogue, and planning. Organized by the Youth Pastoral Ministry, Rome, in collaboration with Don Bosco Youth Animation – South Asia, the gathering brought together delegates and network leaders from across South Asia to strengthen the Salesian mission among young people.
Assam Don Bosco University celebrated its 15th Convocation Ceremony with great enthusiasm and solemnity. Addressing the graduating students, The Hon’ble Governor of Assam, Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya highlighted the immense potential of India’s youth and their vital role in shaping the future of the nation. Focusing on the vision of Viksit Bharat (Developed India), he observed that the country’s transformation depends significantly on a generation of young people who are educated, skilled, responsible and committed to the common good.
In Guwahati, on 16 September 2026, a hall filled with anticipation became the stage for transformation. Bosco Reach Out (BRO), Don Bosco Job Placement Network (JPN), India, National Career Service (NCS), ANMA Integrated Development Association (AIDA), Don Bosco Technical Maligaon, Parish Youth, and the Ministry of Labour and Employment joined hands to create more than a Job Fair—it was a collective movement to empower young lives.
The Annual Youth Ministry Delegates and Network Heads Meeting 2026 of South Asia is a strategic moment of reflection and renewal. Organized jointly by the Youth Pastoral Ministry, Rome, and Don Bosco Youth Animation – South Asia (DBYA-SA), Delhi, the meeting seeks to strengthen collaboration, discern pastoral directions, and respond more effectively to the challenges and aspirations of young people across the Salesian Provinces of South Asia.
The Province of Guwahati (ING) held its Quinquennium 2026, an ongoing formation programme for Salesian priests and brothers within their first five years of priestly ordination and perpetual profession, from September 3 to 6 at the Provincial House, Panbazar. The programme focused on formation, reflection, and fraternity for participants in the early years of ministry.
On August 24, the Don Bosco Institute (DBI) extended humanitarian assistance to flood-affected families through its relief initiative, “A Help in Need – Flood Relief Support.”
Don Bosco School, Panbazar, hosted SciNova 2026, its annual science exhibition, on August 21. Students, educators, scientists and academicians gathered to celebrate scientific curiosity, creativity and innovation.
