In a significant boost to employment prospects for young job seekers, the Archdiocese of Hyderabad, in collaboration with Don Bosco Dhisha, hosted a Mega Job Mela at St. Mary’s School, drawing an overwhelming response from across the twin cities.

Inaugurated by Cardinal Poola Anthony, Archbishop of Hyderabad, the event also saw the presence of Mr. Deepak John, Chairman of the Christian Minority Commission, and Fr. Thomas Santiago, Provincial of the Don Bosco Society. Addressing the gathering, Cardinal Anthony underscored the vital role of skilled and talented youth in shaping the nation’s future, urging them to pursue excellence and “aspire for a better tomorrow.”

The job fair attracted 720 candidates, of whom 415 secured employment, with 160 receiving on-the-spot offer letters. A total of 51 reputed companies from diverse sectors participated, offering a wide range of positions across multiple industries.

The initiative comes at a time when India’s youth unemployment rate remains a pressing concern. According to the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) 2023–24, the overall unemployment rate for those aged 15–29 stands at 10.2%, with urban youth facing a staggering 17.3%. Educated youth, particularly graduates, are among the hardest hit, with rates as high as 17–19%, reflecting a growing gap between academic qualifications and market demands.

Coordinated by Fr. Innaiah, Principal of St. Mary’s School, and Fr. Justin, Director of Dhisha, the event was lauded by participants for effectively bridging the gap between job seekers and employers. Many expressed renewed optimism, viewing the Mela as not just a recruitment drive but a timely lifeline in a challenging job market.
