Don Bosco, the lifestyle for Dr Varun Khullar

``When a student turns into a healer during a pandemic, the equation of life changes. Dr Varun Khullar begins his morning by feeding the needy. He is on call 24x7 for emergencies. I saw the values of our patron saint, Don Bosco, in his lifestyle and felt so proud and so safe. He taught an old English teacher that life is only about serving,`` writes Uma Nair, an English teacher at Don Bosco School, Alaknanda - New Delhi, about her student Varun Khullar. Dr Varun, MD, completed his studies at Don Bosco School, Alaknanda, in 2006. With the second wave of Covid-19 sweeping across Delhi, Dr Varun supplies food, free medicines, and oxygen concentrators for the needy and underprivileged through his NGO `Chhoti Chhoti Khushiyan` (Little, Little Happiness).
As the pandemic raged, Dr Varun supplies food for COVID positive families, migrant labourers, maids, and the daily wagers. He has provided essential medicines free of cost for seven days, costing around 1000 to as many as 500 people. With the help of his colleague, Dr Ankur Aggarwal, who owns a testing Lab, CT scans and X-rays are done at a subsidized cost. The migrant workers, factory workers and rickshaw pullers are given priority at this facility. He has arranged oxygen concentrators at Gurudwaras, temples and Masjid to support those in need of oxygen. He started his social work by adopting an orphanage in Delhi by providing food and study materials back in 2016. He has donated 2000 books to a library for children. His wife, Dr Swati Arora MD, Psychiatry, collaborates in the initiatives of the NGO. She counsels people to maintain mental health and face the challenges of life with positivity. Dr Varun says, ``To save the lives of my teachers from COVID and help my alma mater were proud moments for me. It was very emotional for me to guide teachers who sought my help in these tough moments.``
