Don Bosco Hosts Inaugural Summer Football Tournament in Dimapur

News reported by: Fr. Blasius Tete sdb, IND

Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, hosted the inaugural First Summer Football Tournament on July 14–15, bringing together young footballers from across the Northeast in an initiative to promote grassroots football and nurture emerging talent.

The tournament was organised by the Don Bosco Sports Academy (DBSA) in collaboration with the Dimapur District Football Association (DDFA), marking the beginning of a partnership to strengthen football development in the region.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by Mr Mughato Sumi, Vice-President of the Nagaland Football Association and President of the DDFA, along with DDFA officials Mr Keyi Putlang and Mr Kavi Swu.

Addressing the participants, Mr Sumi said the tournament was designed to provide a competitive platform for young players while highlighting the urgent need for improved football infrastructure in the region, particularly the development of a standard 11-a-side football ground to support the growth of the sport.

The tournament was formally declared open after participating athletes took the oath of sportsmanship, administered by the Organising Committee Secretary, Mr Jonathan Gangmei.

Organisers said the championship sought to create a sustainable pathway for talented footballers by providing greater exposure and competitive opportunities through collaboration between educational institutions and football associations.

Reaffirming the partnership, the DDFA pledged its continued support for initiatives that promote grassroots football and strengthen the sporting ecosystem in Dimapur and the wider Northeast. The organisers expressed hope that the tournament would become an annual event, contributing to the long-term development of football talent in the region.
