In a celebration of youth, sports, and holistic education, Shri Wailadmiki Shylla, Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Meghalaya, inaugurated the newly constructed futsal ground and football gallery at St. Anthony’s Higher Secondary School, Shillong. The event was attended by the Principal, Fr. Anthony Kharkongor SDB, Vice Principal, Fr. Aibor Nongsiej SDB, staff members, and a vibrant gathering of students.

The inaugural programme began with a prayer service and songs led by the students of Class 12 Commerce, invoking God’s blessing upon the new facility and all who will benefit from it. In his keynote address, Bah Wailadmiki Shylla — a former basketball player who once represented Meghalaya — commended the school’s commitment to nurturing both the mind and body.

“Not everyone can become a doctor or an engineer,” he remarked. “Each young person carries unique talents. The government is working to create platforms where these talents can flourish through sports and skill development.” He also assured the school of continued collaboration in promoting sports and the all-round development of students.

Sharing his personal journey from a student-athlete to a cabinet minister, Shylla inspired the young audience with reflections on discipline, perseverance, and vision as keys to success.

In his welcome speech, Fr. Anthony Kharkongor expressed profound gratitude to the Minister and the government for their support. Echoing the Salesian philosophy of holistic formation, he noted that the new futsal ground is “not merely a sports arena but a playground of growth, friendship, and moral formation.”

True to the Salesian spirit inspired by St. John Bosco, who once said, “Run, jump, play, but do not sin,” the event celebrated the integration of faith, joy, and character-building through sports.

Following the inauguration, medals were awarded to students who excelled in various competitions held at True North Lapalang. The celebration concluded with lively performances by the school band, marking a day that harmoniously blended education, faith, and youthful enthusiasm — the enduring spirit of Don Bosco.
