News written by: Fr C M Paul SDB

Don Bosco School, Mirik, came alive with colour, culture, and intergenerational warmth as it celebrated the 210th birth anniversary of Saint John Bosco alongside the second edition of Grandparents Day 2025.

The school welcomed grandparents as the chief guests of the day, honouring them as “pillars of wisdom and strength” in the lives of students. Each grandparent was presented with a gift as a token of love and appreciation before the festivities unfolded.

Students showcased vibrant cultural performances, with dances and musical numbers dedicated to Don Bosco’s legacy. A highlight of the day was the grandparents themselves taking the stage, offering heartfelt presentations that drew warm applause and added a deeply personal touch to the celebration.

Fr. Solomon Rai, Principal of Don Bosco School, described the event as a perfect union of values and family spirit. “Saint John Bosco believed in nurturing the whole child—mind, heart, and soul. Today, we honour not only his legacy but also the living heritage of our grandparents, whose presence uplifts our students and strengthens our school community,” he said.

The grandparents shared their joy at being celebrated in such a meaningful way. “It was a beautiful experience. We felt seen, valued, and loved. Watching our grandchildren perform and being part of the celebration was deeply moving,” said Mrs. Lily Subba, grandmother of Class VII student Aaryan.

Mr. Dawa Lepcha, who attended with his wife and two grandchildren, added, “This school has created a culture of respect and togetherness. We are grateful to be included in such a special way.”

The celebration concluded with a community tea, where families, staff, and students mingled in an atmosphere of fellowship. The event left an enduring impression on the school fraternity, reinforcing Don Bosco’s legacy of love, gratitude, and unity across generations.
