Salesian Practical Trainees Strengthened in Mission at Guwahati Provincial House
Under the theme “Walking with the Young: Lessons from the Playground to the Chapel,” the Province hosted a two-day animation and meeting for Salesian practical trainees at the Provincial House, Guwahati, from August 9 to 10. The gathering aimed to deepen the trainees’ pastoral skills, spiritual discipline, and commitment to youth ministry.
The programme began with an opening prayer by Bro. Yacub Lakra SDB, followed by the lighting of the lamp and a welcome address from Rev. Fr. Charles Deepen Lakra SDB, Province Secretary and Rector of the Provincial House. In his address, he shared five “mantras” for Salesian life, stressing personal responsibility in vocation and formation, fidelity to prayer, resilience in imperfect communities, the importance of being a positive influence, and cultivating love, gentleness, and understanding toward the young.
The first session, “Accompaniment of Young in Our Salesian Presences”, was led by Vice Provincial Fr. Bivan R. Mukhim SDB, who emphasized the centrality of guidance and mentorship in Salesian ministry. This was followed by sessions on “Practical Training: Dos and Don’ts” (Fr. Mukhim), “Interpersonal Relationship” (Fr. Cletus Sebastian SDB), “Digital Discipleship” (Fr. Joy Kachappilly SDB), and “Fundamentals of Financial Accounting” (Fr. Benny Alex SDB).
Evening activities included group discussions, adoration, evening prayer, recitation of the Rosary, and a goodnight talk by Rev. Fr. Francis Cheeramben SDB, who encouraged steadfastness in faith and service.
On the final day, Holy Mass was celebrated by Fr. Mukhim, who in his homily urged trainees to pursue “spiritual fitness” with the same dedication given to physical health—nourished by God’s Word, disciplined by prayer and sacrifice, and protected by avoiding sin.
