A one-day research conclave on “Towards Achieving SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy)” was jointly organized by Assam Don Bosco University (ADBU) and Assam Engineering College (AEC) on Friday, producing decisive outcomes for advancing renewable energy initiatives in the Northeast.

The event brought together academia, industry, and NGOs through 30 technical presentations that framed roadmaps for decentralized renewable energy pilots and strengthened academia–industry collaboration.

Plenary speakers included Mrinal Krishna Choudhury, former director of AEDA; Bhaskar Kakoty, Director and Co-founder of Free Power Technology/FINER; Dr. Shovan Kumar Kundu of AIUB, Bangladesh; Dr. Pankaj Kalita of IIT Guwahati; Jayakumar Balasubramanian, Director of Emertxe; Masfick Hazarika, Program Manager, Energy, WRI India; and Dr. Yannrenthung Odoyu of NIT Meghalaya. Their insights energized gap-analysis sessions and helped map pilot priorities for the region.

The technical sessions showcased deployment-oriented research such as predictive maintenance of induction motors with dual sensor monitoring, machine-learning methods for smart-meter management, IoT-enabled solar retractable greenhouses, hydroponics, AC/DC hybrid microgrid analyses, and AI-based solar forecasting.

The conclave’s deliberations resulted in targeted pilot proposals aimed at shaping the decentralized renewable energy future of the Northeast. Supported by Clean Energy Access Network, Emertxe, and WRI India, the discussions concluded with actionable research roadmaps.

Organizers further announced follow-up meetings with industry and NGOs to ensure a real-world impact. At the same time, selected papers from the conclave will be published in the ADBU Journal of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (AJEEE).
