GC29: This Week at General Chapter, March 31–April 5
The seventh week of the General Chapter begins in a spirit of discernment and intensity, marked by several key events. The work focuses on the presentation and voting of deliberations 18-27, the development of Core 1 and 2, and an important emphasis on some current issues. The week also includes moments of spirituality, cultural activities, and fraternal sharing.
Monday, 31: Synoptic Work on Cores and Deliberations
The week begins with the goal of completing Core 1 and working synoptically on Core 2, making the final adjustments. About 10 deliberations, from 18 to 27, will be addressed, with fundamental decisions stemming from GC28 and the current work. After listening to the ready deliberations and working in commissions on the still-open points, the first formal meeting of the Central Commission will take place to plan the week's work and prepare potential iuxta modum votes. The day will conclude with the goodnight talk given by the former General Councillor for Formation, Fr. Ivo Coelho, who will present the draft of the new Ratio to the Rector Major.
Tuesday, April 01: Inauguration, Voting, and Cultural Evening
After the initial work in the assembly, at 11:00 a.m., the capitulars will participate in the inauguration of the 'Piazzale Maria Ausiliatrice' ( Mary Help of Christians Square), a significant event for the Congregation and the Chapter. In the afternoon, the definitive voting on deliberations 18-27 will take place. The commissions will then analyze the first draft of Core 2, prepare interventions, and vote on them. The day will end with a cultural evening involving all regions, featuring dances and songs, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Wednesday, 02: Discussions and Presentations on Don Bosco's Letters
The morning will be dedicated to discussions on the observations regarding Core 2. This will be followed by intense group work using the 'conversation in the Spirit' method. In the afternoon, a plenary debate will be held, and interventions will be given by the spokespersons of each commission on the topics addressed. In the evening, the new edition of the Salesianum magazine and the compilation of Don Bosco's Letters will be presented, followed by a theatrical performance based on those letters.
Thursday, 03: Voting on Core 2 and Deliberations
After prayer and the approval of minutes, iuxta modum voting on the final deliberations of the Chapter will take place. The afternoon will focus on presenting the second draft of Cores 1 and 2, including the introduction. The capitulars will have time for personal reading and preparation for the subsequent work.
Friday, 04: Prophetic Messages and Concert
After the iuxta modum voting on the second drafts of the Cores and the introduction (with amendments submitted by 1:00 p.m.), the definitive voting on the remaining deliberations will take place. From 9:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., the evening will be enriched by a musical concert organized by Fr. Maurizio Palazzo and his collaborators, designed as a moment of sharing for the capitulars.
Saturday 05: Week's Conclusion and Celebrations
The final day will begin with a Lectio Divina. Fr. Pascual Chávez will deliver the concluding address in the Aula Magna. After a short break, the final document will be decided upon.
The Eucharist will be celebrated at noon in the Basilica, presided over by the Rector Major together with the new Council. The concluding Vespers will be held in the evening at the Turin Cathedral, sealing an intense and prophetic week for the future of the Congregation.
