Every decision impacts those assuming new responsibilities, those collaborating with them, and the beneficiaries of their service. Fr. Coelho, former General Councillor for Formation (2014-2025), with his keen formator's sensitivity, acknowledged this aspect in his homily during the Eucharistic celebration that opened the March 28 session of the 29th General Chapter in Turin. "Once decisions are made, we are called to accept them with faith and hope," said Fr. Ivo Coelho.

It is worth noting that the Chapter members clearly defined each Councillor's role, ensuring no ambiguity in their responsibilities. The first and foremost qualification is faithfulness to the Salesian charism, a genuine love for the Congregation, and a consistent practice of religious vows, fully embodying Don Bosco's spirit. Personal human qualities such as humility, teamwork, and the ability to build and sustain networks—both within and beyond their operational areas—were emphasized as essential attributes.

As the post-election phase of the General Chapter unfolds, the Salesians continue to rely on the Holy Spirit's guidance to direct every Salesian at any level of responsibility toward the greater good of the Congregation and its mission.

As we thank the outgoing councillors, Let's pray for the present team: for synergy among the councillors in charge of specific sectors and for the coordination of their interventions with the regional councillors (R.107). In union with the Rector Major (c.131) to promote fraternal union among the different provinces, and to develop an ever more efficient organization for the fulfilment of the Salesian mission in the world. (C.130). 

Heavenly Father,
We lift up the General Councillors of the Salesians of Don Bosco into Your loving hands.
Bless them with wisdom and courage to guide the mission entrusted to them.
Strengthen their resolve as they work in union with the Rector Major,
Fostering unity, faithfulness, and zeal among the Salesian family.
May they nurture the spirit of service and love,
Empowering every province to fulfill its sacred apostolic calling.
Grant them Your grace to remain steadfast in the Salesian charism,
Reflecting Your divine mercy to all they encounter.
Lord, inspire them to be a lived witness of synodality,
Walking together as a community, in mutual listening, discernment, and collaboration.
May their journey be a beacon of hope and communion,
Guided always by the light of Your Holy Spirit.
We ask this through Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
