Club Members Learn Water-conservation Techniques
To inspire young minds about the importance of water conservation and educate them on sustainable practices for efficient water use, the Salesian Province of Tiruchy (INT), through Cauveri, the Province's Planning and Development Office, organized an Exposure Visit and Talent Expo for the Water Conservation Club members on October 15 at Don Bosco Thanjavur and Sengipatti Agri-farm.
Around 140 club members from six Salesian educational institutions, including Salesians and staff, participated in the event. The day commenced with an informative session followed by a series of competitions on poster-making, speech contests, mime, and quizzes. These activities were a great platform for the students to exhibit their creativity and knowledge while fostering a sense of teamwork and enthusiasm. The winners were awarded with prizes. A stationary-kit was given to each participant as a token of encouragement.
In the afternoon, students were taken for a guided tour at the Agri-field School at Sengipatti, which was a practical demonstration of water conservation techniques in action. Students witnessed various methods like drip irrigation, sprinkle irrigation, greenhouse mist irrigation, and terrace and ground-level rainwater harvesting systems. They were thrilled and captivated by the newer and innovative approaches being employed. They also explored the eco-friendly farm, discovering various tree species, herbal plants, and agricultural practices, and enjoyed observing peacocks, other tiny birds, butterflies, and beetles.
