The book is a biblical exegesis and a theological study of Revelation 17 with special reference to the use of porneia (harlotry) in the Book of Revelation. This study focuses mostly on the text of Rev 17 in its literary and socio-historical context. It explores and investigates exegetically how the author employs the harlot metaphor (porneia) to condemn the idolatrous religio-political system of Babylon (the Roman Empire), which was a threat to the Christian community in Asia Minor and in several parts of the Roman Empire in the first century AD. The author, Father (Dr) John Zosiama hails from Chhingchhip, the state of Mizoram. He joined the Salesian Congregation in 1995 and was ordained a priest in 2003. In 2009 he completed Licentiate (Post-Graduate) in Sacred Scripture at the Pontifical Biblical Institute, Rome. After teaching New Testament at Sacred Heart Theological College, Shillong for some years, he obtained a PhD in Biblical Theology from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas, Rome in 2017. He also has a Master`s Degree in Sociology. He has authored two books in Mizo and has written several articles in Shalom, a Mizo Catholic Monthly of the Diocese of Aizawl. He is currently Professor of Sacred Scripture at Sacred Heart Theological College, Shillong and the Vice Provincial of the Salesian Province of Shillong. Father Barnes Mawrie, professor of Theology at Sacred Heart Theological College, Shillong comments: ``Father Zosiama`s book, refers to John`s prophecy about Babylon`s harlotry, a euphemism for the great Roman Empire of his days which had become a perpetrator of socio-economic and political idolatry and an enforcer of religious harlotry.
