Salesian Province of Bangalore Celebrates its XIII Provincial Chapter

The XIII Provincial Chapter of the Sacred Heart Province of Bangalore was declared open by Father Joyce Thonikuzhiyil SDB, the provincial of Bangalore.The chapter commenced with the solemn Eucharistic celebration presided over by Father Provincial and the provincial councilors assisting him at the altar. The inaugural ceremony proper began at 9.00 am at Kristu Jyoti college, Bangalore.
A well prepared prayer service and the enthronement of the Sacred Scripture set the right mood of the chapter. The dignitaries and the chapter members were welcomed by Father Jose Koyikal, the Vice-provincial and the moderator of the chapter. It was followed by the presidential address during which Father Provincial declared the chapter open. The provincial in his presidential address lauded the confreres for their commitment which is helping the province to move forward. ``The best is what we can do together``, he reminded the chapter members. The representatives of the Salesian Family who were present on the occasion assured their prayerful support during the chapter days. Sister Crescentia D`Almeida FMA, the provincial of FMA, reminded the chapter members in her felicitation address that the chapter is an occasion to `form, reform and transform`. She wished that the chapter be a joyful celebration of the Salesian Family Spirit. Sister Mercy Scaria, the provincial MSMHC expressed her deep concern for Father Tom Uzhunnalil who has been abducted by the extremist group in Yemen. Sister Gracy George, the provincial of SMI expressed her togetherness with the Salesians especially as the province is celebrating the chapter. Mr. D.S. Antuvan, the provincial coordinator of the Salesian Co-operators expressed his wish that the chapter could discuss on the mission addressed to Migrant youth. The Salesian co-operators look forward to harnessing their potential in this regard, he said. Mr. Glen Brass, Vice president of Don Bosco Alumni while addressing the gathering expressed that the forum would chalk out some positive measures to strengthen the Alumni units. Dr.Anne Agnes Mathew the representative of VDB, described the theme of the chapter as `highly relevant` and wished all success for the chapter. The inaugural ceremony concluded with Father George P.S, the Economer of the province proposing the vote of thanks. After the inaugural session, the moderator introduced the procedures of the proceedings. It was followed by comprehensive report on the status of the province by Father Provincial. After some interventions, the economic situation of the province was presented by Father Economer. This too followed some discussions and interventions. The chapter members were then divided into four groups to study and discuss on topics presented in the working document. The rest of the day was filled with discussions and interventions in groups. The proceeding of the day came to an end with the evening prayer and goodnight talk by Father Provincial.
