Free Medical camp held for women on Women`s Day

Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS) in association with Greater Mumbai Co-operative Bank, RG Stone Hospital - Khar, and Don Bosco Alumni - Matunga Unit, jointly organized a Medical Health Camp on 7-8 March, 2015 for the marginalized and underprivileged Women of the Self Help Groups from various centres such as Sewri, Dharavi, Kurla, Wadala and Antop hill of Mumbai city. The Medical Health camp was organised on the premises of Don Bosco Provincial House as a part of the International Women`s Day celebration.
The entire Medical Health Camp was done without charging any fees from the beneficiaries. The main objective of this event was to create awareness of the killer disease of Cancer and other health related sicknesses pertaining to excess weight, blood pressure and others. About 555 women attended this camp and availed of the facilities and benefits.
The Medical Health Camp began on the 7 March with an inaugural ceremony that highlighted the objective of conducting the camp, a brief on the various critical illnesses, their cure and treatment, and various medical tests and diagnostic processes.
The Camp was inaugurated by Fr. Savio Silveira SDB, Executive Director of Don Bosco Development Society along with the dignitaries Mrs. Vaishali Palande, Officer - CRM Cell of Greater Bombay Co-operative Bank, and Mr. Kailash Parekh, Secretary of the Don Bosco Alumni - Matunga Unit.
Medical tests administered included those for Diabetes, BP (Blood Pressure) and BMI (Body Mass Index), PAP Smear Test. Gynaec Consultation was also provided. Free Sonography card for the entire family and free gynaec consultation on the PAP Smear Report on appointment basis has been provided for the benefit of the women who attended the Medical Health Camp.
Free Sonography included tests for enlarged prostate, kidney stone, gall bladder stone, Hernia, Uterine Fibroid, Ovarian Cyst, and Appendicitis & Piles. Information about benefits related to income planning, savings and loans were also provided to the women who came to the camp.
