Triple Feast Celebration Inspires Youth at Don Bosco Jharsuguda

News reported by: Fr. Linus Lakra, SDB

Don Bosco Yuva Kendra, Jharsuguda, marked Independence Day with a vibrant celebration that combined three significant occasions—the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, India’s 80th Independence Day, and the 211th birth anniversary of St John Bosco.

Held under the theme “Wake Up India’s Youth, Arise,” the celebration brought together nearly 175 participants, including Salesian formators, formees, priests, sisters, youth and friends of the institution. The gathering blended faith, patriotism, culture and the Salesian commitment to youth formation.

The cultural programme featured a colourful array of performances, including patriotic remix songs, choral recitations, action songs, Marian and patriotic dances, traditional dances, dance dramas, role plays and mimes. The energetic performances and creative presentations showcased the artistic talents of the young participants while highlighting their commitment to the Church, nation and society.

The threefold celebration offered a symbolic connection between Mary’s complete surrender to God, India’s freedom and Don Bosco’s lifelong dedication to the education and empowerment of young people.

Fr Rasal Xess, SVD, INE Provincial Councillor and ASPAC Coordinator for Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation (JPIC), who was the chief guest, challenged the youth to develop a deeper understanding of freedom.

Freedom, he said, should not be understood merely in political terms but also as a spiritual and social responsibility. He encouraged the young people to become responsible leaders who contribute constructively to society and work towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Fr Xess also underlined the importance of peace, harmony, justice and care for creation. He urged the participants to work towards making their campus and society greener, cleaner and plastic-free, while cultivating responsible habits such as conserving water and electricity and protecting the environment.

He reminded the youth that genuine freedom entails responsibility, leadership and service to others.

The celebration also held special significance as Don Bosco Yuva Kendra prepares to mark the Silver Jubilee of its Pre-Novitiate Community, spanning 2002–2027. The triple feast thus became an occasion to express gratitude for the community’s journey and reaffirm its mission of accompanying, educating and forming young people in the Salesian spirit.
