Salesian Delegates Renew Missionary Commitment at First Animation Meet
News reported by: Fr Selva SDB
The Salesian Province of Trichy (INT) held its first Local Delegates for Missionary Animation (LDMA) meeting at the Don Bosco Provincial House in Tiruchirappalli on June 21. The gathering brought together 24 young Salesian priests to strengthen missionary vocation and promote a vibrant missionary culture across the province.
Fr. Joseph Palemthattel (Sunny), Regional Delegate for Missionary Animation (RDMA), animated the meeting and led participants through a formation programme titled "Rethinking the Missionary Flame." The session focused on deepening the understanding of the Salesian missionary vocation, clarifying the role of Local Delegates for Missionary Animation, and identifying practical ways to cultivate missionary awareness within local communities.
Through interactive discussions and group activities, the delegates reflected on strategies to promote missionary enthusiasm and volunteerism, particularly in Southern Tamil Nadu. Divided into three groups, the participants prepared charts outlining innovative approaches to missionary animation and generated practical action plans to be implemented in their respective Salesian communities.
Addressing the gathering, Provincial Fr. Doss Kennedy, SDB, commended the delegates for accepting the responsibility of nurturing the missionary spirit among young people. He then challenged them to move beyond an inward-looking approach and renew their commitment to the Salesian mission of educating and evangelising young people, especially those living on the margins of society. Fr. Kennedy urged the delegates to embrace a missionary outlook that transcends barriers of culture, caste, language, and social divisions, encouraging them to become instruments of inclusion and hope.
The programme culminated in an oath-taking ceremony, during which the delegates pledged to serve as catalysts for missionary animation in their local communities and to inspire missionary commitment among confreres and young people alike.
