Trichy Province Salesians Deliberate on Strengthening Educational Excellence

28 June 2026
News reported by: Fr Selva SDB

Thirty-four Salesians serving in the schools of the Salesian Province of Trichy (INT) gathered at Don Bosco, Manikandam, Tiruchirappalli, on June 26 to reflect on strengthening educational quality and responding to the evolving challenges of the contemporary educational landscape.

The programme featured two eminent resource persons who addressed key dimensions of modern education. First, education innovator Agastiya Bharathi inspired the participants to recognise and nurture every child's unique talents and potential. Drawing on his extensive experience in mentoring young people, he presented the success of his Junior IAS programme, illustrating how it equips students with confidence, leadership skills, and a sense of purpose while helping them discover their innate abilities.

Next, the second session was led by social activist Britto, who encouraged the educators to critically engage with the country's changing socio-political context. He urged the Salesians to form young people who are guided not by popular narratives or misinformation but by a well-formed conscience, sound judgment, and strong moral character. Referring to the values and rights enshrined in the Constitution of India, he emphasised their role in shaping responsible, socially conscious citizens.

Provincial Fr. Doss Kennedy, SDB, who participated throughout the programme, commended the confreres for their dedicated service in education. He encouraged them to continue raising academic standards while remaining faithful to the Salesian educational tradition. He also challenged them to become pioneers in educational innovation and called on the participants to emulate Don Bosco's passion for forming young people through excellence, compassion, and creativity.

Adding a creative dimension to the gathering was an art exhibition on the theme "Drug-Free World," organised by Fr. John Dharman, SDB. The exhibition received widespread appreciation for its artistic quality and compelling visual message. It highlighted the importance of creating awareness among young people about the dangers of substance abuse.
