Salesian College Hosts National Conference on Philosophical Path to 2047
A two‑day national conference titled “Towards 2047: Making India a Global Power Through Philosophical Engagement” sponsored by Indian Council of Philosophical Research (ICPR) concluded at Salesian College of Higher Education, Dimapur, on Friday after a programme that brought together scholars from across India to discuss ethics, technology, indigenous knowledge and the role of philosophy in public life. The conference was organized by the Department of Philosophy, Salesian College of Higher Education, and IQAC, and featured prominent philosophers from Nagaland such as Dr. Venusa Tinyi from Hyderabad University and Dr. Karilemla of Savitribhai Phule Pune University.
The conference opened on 26th March with a formal inaugural session featuring a welcome address by Dr. Paul Punii, Principal, SCHE and an introduction to the conference by Dr. Vikholienuo Kire, conference convenor. Prof. Dr. Dipak Sinha, Pro-Vice Chancellor, SAS, Nagaland University, Medziphema delivered the keynote address, setting the tone for discussions that linked philosophical inquiry to national development goals towards 2047.
At the first session, Dr. Venusa Tinyi (Associate professor, Dept. of Philosophy, University of Hyderabad, Telangana) presented, “On Deep Reasoning”. Sessions on Relational Epistemology in Naga Thought, Indigenous Knowledge and Global Sustainability, Women’s Community-embedded Entrepreneurship in Nagaland, and showcased how local traditions and ecological wisdom can inform broader conversations about development and ethics. Papers on Religious Pluralism, Intercultural Philosophy, the Emergence of Virtual State and the Ethics of Human Enhancement underlined the event’s interdisciplinary reach.
As India’s efforts to digitization is on the rise, papers on technology and ethics featured prominently. Presentations such as Machine Understanding, Language, and Consciousness, Exploring Consciousness in AI: An Indian Philosophical Perspective, Spiritual Diplomacy: India’s Philosophical Role in Interfaith Dialogue and Cultural Power Towards 2047, examined how classical philosophical questions intersect with contemporary AI debates. A paper on Living or Performing? Our Moral Responsibility in the Media Age addressed ethical responsibilities in an era of pervasive media.
The valedictory talk was delivered by Dr. Venusa Tinyi, and the closing programme included cultural performances and certificate distribution. The conference closed with a vote of thanks from Gainailiu Lily Kamei of Philosophy Department that brought together academics, students and thinkers for final reflections on how philosophical engagement can leverage India’s aspirations to Global Power for 2047. Quoting the opening address of Dr. Paul Punii, Principal he said, “We trust your voice (papers presented) to give our conference not merely a conclusion, but a resonance — the kind that lingers long after the chairs are folded and the halls fall silent.”
