Don Bosco College, Golaghat, served as the venue for the NCC Combined Annual Training Camp organised by the 12th Assam Battalion NCC from December 12 to 21. The 10-day camp brought together more than 500 cadets, staff, and trainers, transforming the campus into a vibrant hub of discipline, teamwork, and comprehensive skill development.

Over the past two years, Don Bosco College, Golaghat, has emerged as a key institution for NCC training in the region. Since 2024, the college has organised 30 diverse NCC-related activities, including eight camps, in collaboration with the 74th Assam Battalion NCC and the 12th Assam Battalion. These initiatives have ranged from annual combined camps and mini camps to B and C Certificate examinations, firing competitions, drill contests, Republic Day parades, and other structured events. Collectively, these programmes have engaged nearly 4,500 cadets and trainers, fostering discipline, cooperation, leadership, and a spirit of selfless service to the nation.

The current training camp drew cadets from 14 institutions, including colleges and schools from Bokakhat, Golaghat, Dergaon, Jorhat, Merapani, and neighbouring areas. Participation included around 180 senior and junior division boys and 210 girls. The training schedule covered field craft, battle craft, march past, first aid, personality development, fire safety, drill displays, self-defence, and sports. Complementary activities such as tree-planting drives, counter-insurgency operations demonstrations, debates, map reading, and awareness sessions on crime and cybercrime—particularly issues affecting women—added depth to the programme.

The camp was led by Col. Hiren Bora, VSM, and Lt. Col. Tongong Konyak K. of the NCC Jorhat Group, with the support of PI Staff, Associate NCC Officers (ANOs), Care Taking Officers (CTOs), ex-servicemen trainers, Junior Commissioned Officers, and a dedicated medical team. A notable highlight was a special session conducted by personnel from the 142 CRPF, featuring weapon displays and demonstrations to enhance cadets’ understanding of national security responsibilities.

Under the guidance of Fr. Dr A. Amaladoss, Principal of Don Bosco College, and with the committed involvement of CTOs John Kisku and Arpita Dowarh, the institution has consistently strengthened its NCC programmes to promote patriotism and unity in diversity. Adding fresh momentum to the NCC girls’ wing, Gouravi Rajkhowa has recently assumed charge as CTO, reinforcing the college’s commitment to women’s leadership and empowerment within the NCC framework.
