Sacred Heart College Tirupattur Marks 75 Years of Transformative Education

Celebrating a legacy of education in the Salesian cradle of South India, Sacred Heart College, Tirupattur, commemorated its Platinum Jubilee on Monday evening. Marking 75 years of service in higher education with a strong emphasis on value-based formation, the milestone celebration was graced by the Rector Major, Rev. Fr. Fabio Attard, lending special significance to the occasion.
Founded on the educational vision inspired by Don Bosco, the college has, over the decades, played a pivotal role in shaping generations of young men and women, with a particular commitment to the poorest and most marginalised. The jubilee programme reflected this rich heritage through vibrant cultural performances and moments of felicitation that showcased student talent while honouring the institution’s enduring contribution to society.
In his felicitation address, Fr. Fabio Attard stressed that education must extend beyond academic achievement to embrace holistic formation grounded in love, respect, and kindness. Urging students to become “gentle agents of change,” he called on them to unite competence with integrity and to stand in solidarity with the poor. True success, he reminded the gathering, is measured not by rank or status but by the dignity and compassion with which one treats others.
Earlier in the day, the Rector Major visited the Dominic Savio Salesian Community, where he reflected on Don Bosco’s own struggles to access education during his youth. Those formative experiences, he noted, inspired Don Bosco to create spaces where learning and joy could flourish together. Fr. Attard commended institutions that open their doors to those otherwise denied educational opportunities, affirming that such initiatives authentically carry forward the Salesian spirit.
The jubilee celebrations were further enriched by the presence of members of the Salesian Family from across the Tirupattur region. Marked by meaningful encounters and a deep sense of fraternity, the day stood as a moment of grace and renewal, reaffirming Sacred Heart College’s enduring commitment to an education that transforms lives and serves society.
