Don Bosco Scouts & Guides celebrate Silver Jubilee
The Don Bosco Scouts & Guides District Association celebrated the Silver Jubilee of its inception on November 18 at St. Bede’s Anglo-Indian HSS, Santhome, Chennai. Around 1500 Bunnies, Cubs, Bulbuls, Scouts, Guides, Rovers and Rangers from the Salesian Schools in Tamil Nadu participated in the celebration.
Father M. Thomas, LT(S), District Chief Commissioner of the Association, welcomed the gathering. The Chief Guest Rajkumar Kaushik, Director, Bharat Scouts & Guides, National Headquarters, New Delhi, delivered a message. Honourable Minister P.K. Sekar Babu, Minister of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments, Department of Tamilnadu and Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, Minister for School Education in Tamil Nadu and the President of Tamil Nadu Bharat Scouts & Guides were the guests of honour.
The celebration had eminent personalities like Dr G. Arivoli, Director of School Education, State Chief Commissioner, Bharat Scouts & Guides, Tamil Nadu, Ms Kalpana Kalahasthi, Associate Project Director, Chandrayaan – 3. The Salesian special invitees were Dr Father Don Bosco Lourdusamy, Provincial of Chennai Province, Father Agilan Sarprasadam, Provincial of Trichy Province, Sr. Devadoss Margaret, Provincial – FMA Chennai Province, Sr. Fernando Majella Provincial – FMA Trichy Province, and Dr. Father John Alexander, Vice-Provincial of Chennai Province and the President of the Don Bosco Scouts & Guides District Association. Sr.Annarani ALT(G) District Training Commissioner(G) proposed the vote of thanks. Rajkumar Kaushik, the chief guest, released the Silver Jubilee souvenir. The Salesian Provincials unveiled the Papal blessing of the Holy Father Pope Francis for the Silver Jubilee Celebration of the Don Bosco District.
The students performed various cultural programmes on the occasion. St. Mary’s students staged a special jubilee anthem dance. The Leaders/Trainers were honoured with meritorious awards for their valuable years of service towards the association. It was a day filled with pleasant memories and a pride of achievement for the Don Bosco Scouts & Guides District Association.
