Don Bosco Technical School Shillong celebrates 100 Years of existence
The Don Bosco Technical School (DBTS) marked a historic milestone in its journey as it celebrated its centenary of existence, showcasing a rich legacy of technical education, character building, and community service. The events, held on November 9-11, brought together past pupils, students, faculty, and well-wishers to commemorate a hundred years of excellence in technical education and holistic development.
The celebration kicked off with a grand inaugural ceremony on November 9 with the EXPO (exhibition and showcase of the various products prepared by the trainees from the departments like woodwork, general mechanics, bakery, fast food and DTP), attended by dignitaries, past pupils, and members of the Don Bosco community. The exhibits showcased the school's commitment to technical excellence, technological advancements, and contributions to society through various programmes. The chief guest for the day was Dr Ampareen Lyngdoh, Cabinet Minister, Govt. of Meghalaya. The event featured speeches, songs and dance reflecting the achievements, its impact on students and the vision for the future. The EXPO 2023, visited by several people, was on for three days.
One of the features of the celebration was the reunion of DBTS past pupils from various batches. It provided former students reconnect, share experiences, and reminisce about their time at the school. The achievements of the past pupils in different fields were highlighted.
The grand finale was held on November 11 with the Holy Mass celebrated by Most Rev Victor Lyngdoh, Archbishop of Shillong and concelebrated by three other bishops and priests to thank God for the hundred years of blessings on the institution. The Mass served as a spiritual anchor, reflecting on the values instilled in students over the years. The chief guest of the evening programme was Leopoldo Girelli, Apostolic Nuncio of India & Nepal and the guest of Honor Dr Ampareen Lyngdoh, Cabinet Minister, Govt of Meghalaya. The MP of Shillong, Vincent Pala, was also present for the programme with bishops, government officials, priests, sisters, brothers, teachers and students.
The centenary celebration of DBTS was a momentous occasion that brought together generations of students, faculty, and supporters to celebrate a century of technical educational excellence. The event not only looked back at the Technical school's rich history but also set the stage for the continued pursuit of excellence in the years to come. As DBTS moves forward, it remains committed to the principles of its founder, St. John Bosco, and the holistic development of its students.
