The Salesians of Don Bosco have embraced synodality as a guiding principle in their mission, drawing inspiration from recent General Chapter documents. Synodality, in this context, means walking together as a community of faith—Salesians, lay collaborators, and young people—sharing responsibility for the mission of Don Bosco. It emphasizes listening, dialogue, and discernment, ensuring that decisions are made collectively and inclusively. The General Chapters highlight that synodality is not just about governance but about fostering communion, where every member of the Salesian family contributes their gifts to the shared mission of evangelization and education. This spirit of collaboration strengthens the bonds between religious and lay people, making the Salesian mission more participatory and responsive to the needs of today’s youth.

In South Asia, synodality translates into practical initiatives that involve students, parents, teachers, and local communities in shaping educational and pastoral programs. The Salesians encourage participatory leadership in schools, youth centers, and vocational institutes, ensuring that young people are not passive recipients but active contributors to their own growth. Synodality also inspires collaboration with other religious groups, NGOs, and civil society, creating networks of solidarity that extend beyond the Salesian family. By embedding synodality into their structures and daily practices, the Salesians foster a culture of shared responsibility, dialogue, and co-responsibility—making their mission more inclusive, dynamic, and faithful to Don Bosco’s vision of empowering the young through community and communion.

The Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB) have completed a region-wide Community Audit as part of their flagship initiative, Mission Poverty Eradication (MPE). On 15 November 2025, designated by the Salesian Provincial Conference of South Asia (SPCSA) as a day of reflection, more than 427 communities across India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Nepal paused to evaluate their service to the poorest and most vulnerable youth.
