Don Bosco Vazhikaatti, in collaboration with Don Bosco Arts and Science College, Surabi, Maestro and TECH Mahindra Foundation and DB Job, marked a significant milestone by organizing the HR Summit 2024 on February 20 with the theme, Reforming Industry by Transforming the Youth. The Summit, held at Don Bosco Arts and Science College, garnered attention from enthusiastic youths representing various colleges and HR managers.
The evening of December 27 was memorable for the Salesians of Chennai Province as 15 young Salesian deacons were ordained priests at Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine, Perambur, Chennai. Most Rev. Dr George Antonysamy, Archbishop of Madras-Mylapore, presided over the Eucharistic celebration and conferred the ordination.
In the wake of the devastating cyclonic storm "Michaung" that pounded Chennai, the state capital of Tamil Nadu in South India, and left a trail of destruction across the state, the Salesian community emerged as a beacon of hope, resilience, and compassion amid the chaos. The cyclone, which struck with unprecedented force, disrupted the lives of thousands, submerging entire neighbourhoods and claiming the homes of countless families.
In the aftermath of Cyclone Michaung in Chennai and its surrounding areas, Don Bosco Arts and Science College, Kilpauk, Chennai, demonstrated unwavering solidarity with the communities most affected. On December 9, the students and the college administration embarked on a vital relief mission for those in need in the neighbourhoods of Vyasarpadi, MKB Nagar, TP Chattaram, and Chetpet.
The Evangelization and Catechetical Centre of the Salesian Province of Chennai, Deepagam, organized 'Let’s Celebrate Faith' on October 29 at Don Bosco, Katpadi, under the guidance and leadership of Father Jesudoss, the Director of Deepagam. More than 2000 children, youth, adults, Salesians and the Salesian Co-operators attended the event.
The Rector Major, Rev. Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, the 10th Successor of Don Bosco on 14 December 2022 nominated Rev. Fr Don Bosco LOURDUWAMY as the provincial designate of the Salesian Province of St Thomas the Apostle, Chennai (INM). Fr Bosco will be succeeding Fr Jose Kochamkunnel (KM) who has been serving as Provincial since February 2017. The Salesian Province of Chennai is a large and vibrant Province with 415 confreres working in 51 houses in the State of Tamil Nadu, the Union Territory of Pondicherry, and the Islands of Andaman and Nicobar in India. It has also one house at Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates.
The Salesian Sisters’ (FMA- Daughters of Mary Help of Christians) centennial cultural bonanza took place on September 3, 2022, at the Auxilium College, Katpadi, in the august presence of the Rector Major Fr Fernandez Artime Angel, Mother General Chiara Cazzuola, General Councillors Sr. Mora Ruth del Pilar, Sr. Borja Runita and Sr. Celine Jacob, SDB and FMA Provincials and other dignitaries.
The Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, arrived at Chennai airport at 3.30 a.m. on September 2, 2022. He was welcomed to the Salesian Province of St. Thomas, the Apostle, Chennai (INM) by Rev. Fr. K.M Jose, the Provincial, Rev. Fr. Don Bosco, the Vice Provincial, Rev. Fr. Edwin Vasanthan, the Economer, Fr. John Christy, the Youth Pastoral Delegate Provincial and INM Salesian confreres.
