Kolkata: Nitika Don Bosco, once known as the National Salesian Catechetical Centre, organized a three-day workshop on Mobile Photography, 11-13 April, with 21 participants from varied backgrounds. Father Gilbert Choondal, Director of catechetical services at Nitika and Father Nirmal Toppo, Director of social communication at Nitika were the resource persons of the workshop.

Sad Demise of Brother Mathew Thaiparambil SDB

The funeral rites of Brother Mathew Thaiparambil SDB took place in the Basilica of Our Lady of Bandel on 6 February with over 80 priests joining the Eucharistic Celebration presided over by Father Jose Thaiparambil S.J, the younger brother of the deceased Salesians and attended by hundreds of well-wishers, students, past pupils and religious.

Fourth Salesian Youth Fest Celebrated in Kolkata

Salesian province of Kolkata organized Youth Fest 2019 at Don Bosco Park Circus from the 23rd to 26th January. Based on the theme `Young People, Faith and Vocational Discernment,` derived from the recently concluded Synod on Youth, the Fest welcomed the gathering of 375 participants, including the animators.

Power of Intercession to prepare for the World Day of the Sick

Kolkata: A two-day seminar on the World of the Sick and the Power of Intercession was organized on 12-13 January, 2019 at Nitika Don Bosco by Calcutta Catholic Charismatic Renewal Services (CCCRS) and Nitika. Under the leadership of Fr. Aymanathil Jose SDB, and Mr. Raymond Baptist the chairman of CCCRS, the event was a step towards the preparation of the World Day of the Sick, an international event to be held in Kolkata on 9-11 February, 2019.

Krishnagar: A seminar on venerable Francis Convertini was organized by the diocese of Krishnagar in collaboration with the Salesians of Don Bosco on September 20, 2018 at Sanjivani, the Diocesan Pastoral Centre, Krishnagar, a suburban township 100 km north of Kolkata. Joseph Suren Gomes, Bishop of Krishnagar and Father Pier Luigi Cameroni, Postulator General of the Salesians of Don Bosco were the esteemed speakers.

Jalandhar: The Annual Assembly of Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI) Catechetical Commission was held at Jalandhar from 11 to 14 September 2018 at the Pastoral Centre of the Diocese of Jalandhar.　Father Gilbert Choondal SDB, the Catechetical Director of Nitika Don Bosco, Kolkata, addressed 130 Catechetical Directors from India and delivered the keynote address, ``Challenges of Youth Catechesis in the Context of Synod 2018.`` 　The theme of the Assembly was ``Youth Catechesis in India.``

Salesians Relaunch Catechetics India

Catechetics India, the revamped edition of the erstwhile journal was released in the format of magazine by Rev. Thomas D`Souza, the Archbishop of Kolkata on September 26, 2018 at Don Bosco School, Park Circus. The event, participated by more than 150 people also had informative presentations on the upcoming Synod for youth.

A three volume work, Robibarer Shastropater Bhumika Shongkolpan, a literal Bengali translation of the late Father John Larrea`s book `Introduction to the Sunday Readings` was released on 9 August by Father Nirmol Gomes, the Provincial of Salesian Province of Kolkata on the occasion of the annual meeting of Salesian parish priests held in the provincial house.

Jamboree for scouts and guides at Kolkata

Focusing on the theme `Holiness, Harmony and Health`, the Salesian Province of Kolkata organized the `8th Provincial Jamboree`, a four-day Scouts and Guides camp at Don Bosco School Liluah bringing together 600 young people in 14 Scout Troops and 12 Guide Companies. They hailed from the states of West Bengal, Bihar, Sikkim and the neighbouring country of Nepal, adding an international flavour to the mega event. The programme was held from 29 December, 2017 to 1 January, 2018

The tiny steps that had stepped into the apostolic boarding school of the province in the early nineties, rose firmly towards the altar as Deacon Banti Martin Mondol was ordained a priest on December 30, 2017 at Holy Family Catholic Church of Baliura, merely ten minutes walking distance from Bangladesh border.
