100 Laptops for Salesian Girl Students, 55 distributed

Sonada, 30 January 2021: In a rare but challenging initiative, Salesian College Sonada floated a scheme to provide 100 girl students a laptop each at affordable price. In the first phase of distribution 55 laptops were given marking the feast of the patron of the college St John Bosco (Don Bosco), 30 January 2021.
Remaining 45 laptops will be distributed soon in the second phase.
Speaking at the distribution event, Rector Fr. Tomy Augustine, congratulated the girls and briefed them about the donor agency.
The donor agency United Board for Christian Higher Education in Asia based in Hong Kong (established in 1922) came forward to help as part of its Covid-19 relief for member institutions who wanted assistance for online education.
The Salesian College scheme consisted of girl students paying Rs. 10,000, ie. 40 per cent of the cost of laptop while United Board paid for 60 percent of the cost.
The first batch of 55 girls received ACER brand laptop (Pentium Gold-4415U / 4GB RAM / 1TB HDD / Windows 10 Home 64 Bit / 14 Inch) with 3 Years Warranty.
The department wise break up of the beneficiaries is as follows: Political Science (21), English (20), Sociology (8), B.Com (5), BCA (4), History (2), and one laptop each for Mass Communication, Education, and BSW.
Semester wise break up for laptop distribution in the first phase was : 21 laptops for first semester followed by 20 for third semester, and 14 for fifth semester. END
