BOSCOM South Asia Executive Body Google Meets

The annual Don Bosco Communication [BOSCOM] South Asia Executive Body Meeting took place via Google Meet on 17 and 18 July 2020. Convened by BOSCOM South Asia Delegate Father Ernest Rosario, the participants from the 11 provinces of South Asia were privileged to be accompanied throughout by the General Councillor for Social Communications Father Gildásio Mendez dos Santos. The executive body discussed, deliberated and debated the post-pandemic way forward on the theme, `How Can We Creatively Accompany Young People in the Virtual World`.
The agenda for Day 01 after the initial formalities of prayer, welcome and the passing of the previous minutes was devoted to the keynote address by Father dos Santos. He congratulated the BOSCOM body for spearheading an exemplary and fantastic communication presence in the Salesian world. He invited the participants to focus on the new emerging realities and inter-group collaboration with the Don Bosco South Asia Networks to showcase and promote the wonderful and marvelous good works accomplished with and for the disadvantaged marginalized across the region. Father P. T. Joseph Webmaster SPCSA [Salesian Provincial Conference fo South Asia] updated the assembly with the outcome of the meeting with the `heads of networks` and also explained the shift to the donboscosouthasia.org portal. BIS [Bosco Information Service] South Asia Chief Editor Father George Christopher [INB] provided a fair review of the present status, varied problems and a possible solutions-oriented future roadmap for the advancement of the BIS South Asia. He also gave a quick brief on the `writers` forum` planned for the year. Father Michael Makri [INS] presented and moderated a discussion on creative presence and accompaniment of the young in the virtual world. Father Harshana Hemantha (LKC) proposed the vote of thanks, bringing Day 01 to a close.
Saturday 18 July 2020, Day 02, discussed the BOSCOM Logo. A South Asia Logo competition is to be conducted to finalize the Logo with invited entries from young people, Salesians and artists. Father Rosario presented the roadmap for new proposals: domain-based email IDs, DAM (Digital Asset Management), BOSCOM Media Network (YouTube Channel), Salesian Digital Noticeboard and the new web-portal for BOSCOM. The new web-portal domains - boscom.in and boscom.org have been promptly purchased by Father Joseph [SPCSA Webmaster]. Various other discussions on promoting the flagship programmes of the SPCSA (Nation Building, Clean and Green India, and Migrants), research project with a national level survey on digital addictions and how BOSCOM can effectively address it, witnessed animated clarifications and deliberations. The future of the Don Bosco National Film Festival and the possibility of online film festival were also discussed. Father Gildásio rounded up with a few pointers on effective and sustained accompaniment of the young people by and through BOSCOM in collaboration with the South Asia Networks. He also congratulated the executive body on the intensive 02-day meet, and hoped that he would be able to join in and listen to the various creative ways in which BOSCOM is making a significant impact. Father Ernest Rosario proposed the vote of thanks, inviting the members to stay alert for further information and communication on future meets.
