In the continuing COVID-19 lockdown, the marginalised poor daily-wage earning families have lost their livelihood, filled with frustration and anxiety without food, not knowing how to cope up with the current situation.
The Salesians of Don Bosco Tiruchy [INT] are reaching out to stranded migrants, tribals, home-maids, health-sanitary workers, abandoned elders, and the visually impaired, providing groceries, food packets, medicines and health sanitary materials.
Provisions kits, masks and sanitizers were distributed to 200 families of identified released bonded-laboureres at Thuraiur Block in Tiruchy District, in Tamil Nadu.
These families settled at the foothills in Thuriaur Taluka were most affected as the area was considered to be a red-zone and the confinement strictly enforced. These daily wage-workers who are involved in stone-cutting, are now without any work and without any means of procuring daily food.
The Salesians with due permission from the collectorate and with the cordial collaboration of the local Tehshildar, undertook provision distribution to the families of MGR.Nagar and Anna Nagar Adivaram, adhering torules of self-distancing, in the presence of government officials.
The Salesian Province of Tiruchy COVID-19 Relief has thus far benefited more than 20,000 families.
