Salesian Provincial Conference of South Asia meets in Bangaluru

Don Bosco Provincial House Bangalore was privileged to host the 25th SPCSA (Salesian Provincial Conference of South Asia) Council on 21-22 August, 2015. All the members of the SPCSA Council - the Regional Councillor Father Maria Arokiam Kanaga, eleven Provincials of the various provinces of India, the Superior of the Superior of the Vice Province of Sri Lanka and the Secretary of SPCSA - were present for the meeting. The Council began its two-day programme with the specially prepared Lauds at 7 am on 21st followed by the Holy Eucharist presided over by the Regional Councillor. The official inauguration was at 9 am on 21st with a prayer service. Father Joyce Francis welcomed the august gathering and Father Maria Arokiam Kanaka inaugurated the meeting with a brief inaugural message.
The two days were packed with agenda on various important matters concerning the region. The provincial house community joined for the Vespers with SPCSA Council. After the vespers the Goodnight Talk was given by Father Joseph Almeida, the new Superior of the Vice Province of Sri Lanka. He spoke about the Vice Province, its activities and the enormous scope and need for Salesian apostolate in the island nation. He stressed the urgent need for more Salesian personnel from India to strengthen the work which the congregation began over 60 years ago. There was a get-together dinner organized by the provincial house community typically displaying the great family spirit of the Salesians.
The second day commenced with the well prepared Lauds at 7 am followed by the Holy Eucharist presided over by Most Rev. Bernard Moras, The Archbishop of Bangalore. In his introduction he spoke about the exemplary services the Salesians are doing especially for the young in the Church especially in India. On the occasion of the Bicentenary of the Birth of Don Bosco he thanked God for the gift of Don Bosco to the Church and the world who carried out in an outstanding way work for the welfare of youth especially the poorest which now his sons and daughters of the congregations he founded and the other members of the Salesian Family are carrying on to the admiration of all. The Council meeting was concluded at 4 pm on 22nd August. All the participants were extremely happy with the arrangements for the meeting and thanked the Provincial of Bangalore Province and his team of confreres for the efficient way it was organized.
