Fr. George Maliekal, the Provincial of the Salesian province of Silchar gave a clarion call to fellow salesians to make holiness a program of life. He was speaking at the concluding Eucharist of the 7th South Asia Congress of the Salesian Brothers at Don Bosco Institute,(DBI) Guwahati, Northeast India. In his homily, Fr. Maliekal reiterated the theme of the five-day Congress, `Salesians, Be Holy` and called holiness `the base` on which a Salesian must build up other qualities and strengths.
A total of 110 Salesian Brothers and 22 priests took part in the Congress, held at the picturesque campus of DBI from 30 December 2013 to 3 January 2014. Presence of salesians from other countries gave the Congress a truly `South Asian` character. The province of Silchar, however, had the largest `contingent` of participants.
The event was jointly organized by the three Salesian provinces of Northeast India - Dimapur, Guwahati and Silchar, under the able guidance of Br. Angelus Tete of Guwahati. A core team from each province ably assisted him.
A notable feature of the four-day Congress was the presence of both temporary and perpetually professed brothers, presence of majority of the provincials and the Regional Councillor Fr. Maria Arokiam.
