Don Bosco College Itanagar Trains NSS Volunteers in Disaster Management

News reported by: Fr. Blasius Tete sdb, IND

The NSS Cell of Don Bosco College, Itanagar, in collaboration with the Department of Disaster Management, Arunachal Pradesh, held a seven-day Disaster Management Programme that concluded on August 21. The programme equipped NSS volunteers with essential knowledge and practical skills for emergency response and preparedness.

The programme covered rescue operations, safety measures, snakebite response and emergency preparedness through theoretical sessions and hands-on training.

On the final day, volunteers took part in a practical rescue session, where they were trained in knots and rope techniques used in rescue operations. These hands-on exercises helped participants develop practical skills for responding to emergencies more safely and effectively.

A separate theory session on snakebite management focused on preventive measures, precautions and appropriate responses during snakebite incidents. It encouraged participants to remain calm, act promptly and follow responsible procedures in such emergencies.

The training aimed to strengthen the volunteers’ capacity to respond effectively during disasters and other emergencies, while promoting safety and preparedness.

The programme concluded with the distribution of certificates to the participating volunteers in recognition of their active involvement and commitment throughout the week-long training. Emergency kits were also distributed to enhance their preparedness and help them respond more effectively during emergencies.
