Don Bosco Empowers Punanamei Students Through Two-Day Orientation Programme

Sixty-six Higher Secondary students of Classes XI and XII at Higher Secondary School, Punanamei, participated in a two-day Orientation Programme on July 21 and 22, aimed at preparing them for higher education and future career challenges.
Organised with the support of Don Bosco Youth Empowerment Services (DBYES), the programme sought to bridge the gap between classroom learning and the demands of academic and professional life through interactive and student-centred activities.
The orientation focused on developing essential life skills, with sessions on self-awareness, confidence building, and responsible decision-making. Students were encouraged to reflect on their personal strengths while acquiring practical tools to make informed choices about their future.
Career guidance formed a major component of the programme. Fr Theotimus Lakra, SDB, who served as the lead facilitator, guided participants through practical exercises designed to help them identify their abilities and set realistic academic and career goals.
Departing from conventional lecture-based instruction, the programme adopted a participatory learning approach, featuring group discussions, team-building activities, and interactive exercises to strengthen leadership, communication, and collaborative skills.
Addressing the students, Fr Lakra stressed that education should prepare young people not only for examinations but also for the challenges of life. He encouraged them to recognise their unique talents and make thoughtful decisions that would shape a hopeful and meaningful future.
Participants described the programme as both inspiring and transformative. One student said the sessions helped her realise that "career planning begins with knowing myself," reflecting the impact of the self-discovery exercises.
The programme concluded with an address by the Principal, who urged the students to put into practice the values and lessons they had learned and grow into responsible and committed citizens.
