Seven Salesian Clerics Make Perpetual Profession in Guwahati
News reported by: Mukhim Bivan [ING]
A spirit of prayer, thanksgiving, and joy marked the Perpetual Profession of seven Salesian clerics of the Salesian Province of Mary Help of Christians, Guwahati, held at St Joseph’s Co-Cathedral on May 23.
The solemn Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Fr Sebastian Kuricheal in the presence of Salesians, religious, parents, family members, benefactors, and a large gathering of the faithful who came together to witness the lifelong commitment of the young Salesians.
In his homily, Fr Sebastian reflected on the call to discipleship and the courageous witness expected of consecrated persons in the contemporary world. He reminded the newly professed clerics that religious life is not a path of comfort but a journey of total surrender to God and generous service to His people.
Drawing inspiration from the readings of the day, the Provincial emphasised that the light of Christ conquers darkness and that the vocation of a Salesian is to become a sign of hope, especially for the young, the poor, and those searching for meaning in life. He urged the brothers to remain rooted in prayer, faithful to their vocation, and steadfast amid the challenges of materialism, individualism, and spiritual confusion in modern society.
Fr Sebastian also encouraged the newly professed to live their consecration with joy and authenticity, stressing the importance of fraternity, obedience, simplicity of life, and missionary zeal in the Salesian vocation. He expressed gratitude to the families, formators, and communities who accompanied the young Salesians in their vocational journey.
Addressing the gathering after the Holy Mass, the Provincial congratulated the brothers on reaching an important milestone in their spiritual journey. He noted that perpetual profession is not the culmination of the vocation journey, but the beginning of a deeper commitment and total surrender to the Lord.
The celebration concluded with a felicitation programme featuring cultural presentations, words of appreciation, and a fellowship meal shared in the spirit of Salesian family joy and fraternity.
