Salesian College Sonada witnessed a leadership transition as Fr. C.M. Paul, founder-director of Radio Salesian, formally announced the appointment of Fr. Pritam Barla as the new Director of the college’s community radio station. The announcement was made on 28 October following the official appointment by Fr. Dr. Joseph Pauria, Provincial of Kolkata Salesians and President of the College Governing Body.

Fr. Barla, who has been serving as the Campus Minister at Sonada, brings with him two years of experience as the Assistant Director of Radio Salesian. His new role continues the station’s vision to serve as a medium for education, culture, and community engagement.

Radio Salesian 90.8 FM—The Voice of the Hills—holds the distinction of being the first college-based community radio station in North Bengal and across all eight states of Northeast India. Since its inception in 2016, the station has been a trailblazer in promoting community empowerment, youth participation, and educational outreach. Its efforts have earned national acclaim for fostering social inclusion and dialogue through grassroots communication.

Under its unique collaborative model, nearly half of Radio Salesian’s programs are co-created with listeners and members of the local tea garden community. This participatory approach ensures that diverse local voices are represented and respected, reinforcing the Salesian mission of inclusive education and social transformation through media.
