The inaugural session opened with a prayer led by Fr. Kitboklang Tyngkan SDB, followed by words of welcome from Fr. Jeevan Lakra SDB, Vice Provincial of INS. In his keynote address, Fr. Sebastian Kuricheal SDB, Provincial of Guwahati, underscored the importance of ongoing formation for young priests.

“Formation does not stop with perpetual profession or ordination; rather, for a Salesian, formation is a life-long process,” Fr. Kuricheal reminded participants. He emphasized the role of each Salesian in building fraternity, stating that while there may never be a “perfect community,” every member has the responsibility to contribute positively through his presence and relationships.

Expressing gratitude, he thanked Fr. Johnson for animating the sessions and the Director of Siloam for hosting the gathering. He encouraged participants to make the most of the opportunity by sharing experiences, supporting one another, and deepening their consecration to God and commitment to the Salesian mission.

The evening concluded with Eucharistic Adoration and night prayers. Over the following days, Fr. Johnson will lead sessions on vocation and formation, interiorization, challenges in religious life, pastoral ministry, youth engagement, and collaboration with the laity. Daily sharing of priestly experiences will further strengthen bonds among participants.

The Quinquennium will conclude on September 26 with the Holy Eucharist presided over by Fr. Johnson. Fifty-two young Salesian priests and brothers from both provinces are taking part in this formative encounter.
