Salesian Co-operators Visit Home for the Mentally Challenged

A quiet act of compassion turned into a robust exchange of humanity when members of the Salesian Co-operators visited a home for the mentally challenged in Trivandrum.

Carrying provisions but offering much more, the group spent time with the residents — talking, singing familiar songs, and sharing snacks. Their promise was not just to support materially but to return with consistent presence and friendship.

The visit builds on Don Bosco Veedu’s ongoing mission to accompany the residents, which began during the COVID-19 pandemic when the home faced acute food shortages. Since then, Salesians and their lay collaborators have stepped in to provide essentials, pay bills, and extend emotional support.

For the residents, such visits bring care, dignity, and affirmation. For the visitors, they offer something equally profound: the reminder that life’s true worth lies not in productivity or possessions, but in shared humanity and presence.
